Association between dental anomalies and skeletal malocclusions in different facial patterns in a Saudi subpopulation.

BACKGROUND: The presence of dental anomalies alongside malocclusion or disruption of facial symmetry can lead to issues with tooth alignment and performance. The aim of this study was to assess how common dental abnormalities in relation to malocclusion and facial patterns in residents of the Hail province in Saudi Arabia. METHODS: A Cross section analytical Observational study design employed cephalometric radiographs and orthodontic records sourced from a private practice in Hail City, Saudi Arabia, as well as the College of Dentistry. Patients who were older than nine were included. A varie

Nonsurgical orthodontic treatment of a hypodivergent adult patient with bilateral posterior scissors bite and excessive overjet.

This report illustrates successful nonsurgical orthodontic treatment of a hypodivergent adult patient with bilateral posterior scissors bite (Brodie bite) and excessive overjet. A 26-year-old woman primarily reported maxillary incisor protrusion. She was diagnosed with Class ll division 1 malocclusion with skeletal Class I, short face, low mandibular plane angle and bilateral posterior scissors bite. A lingual arch with anterior bite block and posterior miniscrews with preadjusted edgewise appliances were used to improve the bilateral scissors bite. After achieving molar occlusion, the maxilla

How the lower face soft tissue changes after mandibular advancement or setback.

To contribute as an auxiliary tool for orthodontic and orthognathic planning and treatment, short-term changes on the lower face soft and hard tissues were investigated. All subjects presented adequate maxillary relation with the cranial base. The treatment was done by mandibular advancement in patients with skeletal class II or setback in skeletal class III, by the same oral surgeon, using the same technique, and rigid internal fixation. Lateral cephalograms were traced at the following intervals: T0--immediately before the surgical procedure, T1--6 months after surgery, and T2--1 year after

Finishing occlusion in Class II or Class III molar relation: therapeutic Class II and III.

The most frequent extraction regime consists of the removal of upper and lower premolars. Depending on anchorage requirements, camouflage treatment options, surgical intervention, or the absence of teeth in only one arch, it may become necessary to finalize the occlusion with a one-dental-unit discrepancy between the upper and lower dental arches. Guidelines are presented for finishing occlusions in Class II or Class III molar relation.

Trigeminal foraminal patterns in "skeletal" Class II and Class III adults--a radiocephalometric study.

Radiocephalometric analysis, based mainly on the foramina of the trigeminal nerve branches, was applied to three samples of adults, two representing fairly extreme profile types, the third representing "normal" dentofacial build. The aim of the study was to find out whether the analytical method could be used to differentiate between facial types. It appeared that some elements of the method had diagnostic powers, and could substitute for traditional methods. Many dimensions inspected, however, were fairly similar in all facial types, thus suggesting a general basic role of the trigeminal nerv

Malocclusion and occlusal traits among dental and nursing students of Seven North-East states of India.

BACKGROUND: Any irregularity of the teeth or a mal-relationship of the dental arches is known as malocclusion. Among all the oro-facial problems, tooth decay is considered the most prevalent one followed by periodontal disease and dental malocclusion. Dental malocclusion is not a life-threatening condition. However, it is closely related to an individual's self-esteem and psychosocial wellbeing. The prevalence of malocclusion varies among different ethnic groups, age-groups, and gender. OBJECTIVES: This study was conducted with the objective to find out the prevalence of normal occlusal trait

Credibility of Pont's index in Egyptian population.

BACKGROUND: Many indices have been suggested to help orthodontists in predicting the ideal dental arch width. One of these was Pont's index which was established by Pont. He suggested equations to predict the ideal maxillary dental arch width (interpremolar and intermolar) from the combined mesiodistal width of the maxillary incisors. This study aimed to test the applicability of Pont's index as an orthodontic diagnostic tool in Egyptian population and to compare the results with those obtained from studies of different ethnic subjects. METHODS: This study was performed using dental casts of

Orthognathic correction of dento-facial discrepancies.

Orthognathic treatment is a process which involves orthodontics and maxillofacial surgery and is used to treat those dento-facial discrepancies which are outside the scope of conventional orthodontic treatment, for example severe Class II or Class III problems, anterior open bites and facial asymmetries. Patients who present with these severe problems may encounter a wide range of different problems ranging from functional problems (for example, difficulties biting and chewing) to self-consciousness in a wide range of work and social situations. This paper discusses the possible indications fo

Prevalence of Malocclusions among Schoolchildren from Southwestern Romania.

Malocclusions have a continuously increasing prevalence from one generation to another as a result of climate change, soil, atmosphere, and water pollution. All of these aspects have unfavorable consequences for the nutritional scheme. Thus, nutrition, together with other etiopathogenic factors, contributes to complex alterations in the somatic development of the entire organism and, implicitly, of the cephalic extremity. The study group included 4147 children from randomly selected schools from Vâlcea County, Romania. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of malocclusions in sc
