Early Prediction of Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy Using Machine Learning and Medical Records from the First and Second Trimesters.

Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDPs) remain a major challenge in maternal health. Early prediction of HDPs is crucial for timely intervention. Most existing predictive machine learning (ML) models rely on costly methods like blood, urine, genetic tests, and ultrasound, often extracting features from data gathered throughout pregnancy, delaying intervention. This study developed an ML model to identify HDP risk before clinical onset using affordable methods. Features were extracted from blood pressure (BP) measurements, body mass index values (BMI) recorded during the first and second tri

Genetic liability for substance use associated with medical comorbidities in electronic health records of African- and European-ancestry individuals.

Polygenic risk scores (PRS) represent an individual's summed genetic risk for a trait and can serve as biomarkers for disease. Less is known about the utility of PRS as a means to quantify genetic risk for substance use disorders (SUDs) than for many other traits. Nonetheless, the growth of large, electronic health record-based biobanks makes it possible to evaluate the association of SUD PRS with other traits. We calculated PRS for smoking initiation, alcohol use disorder (AUD), and opioid use disorder (OUD) using summary statistics from the Million Veteran Program sample. We then tested the

Accuracy of claim data in the identification and classification of adults with congenital heart diseases in electronic medical records.

BACKGROUND: The content of electronic medical records (EMRs) encompasses both structured data, such as billing codes, and unstructured data, including free-text reports. Epidemiological and clinical research into adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) increasingly relies on administrative claim data using the International Classification of Diseases (9th revision) (ICD-9). In France, administrative databases use ICD-10, the reliability of which is largely unknown in this context. AIMS: To assess the accuracy of ICD-10 codes retrieved from administrative claim data in the identification and cla…

A comparative assessment of immunization records in the Defense Medical Surveillance System and the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System.

We compared immunization data in the Defense Medical Surveillance System (DMSS) and immunization data for service members with an anthrax vaccine-associated adverse event reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) during January 1998 through December 2004. Our main measure of agreement was sensitivity of the DMSS conditional on an immunization record(s) occurring in VAERS. The sensitivity of DMSS was 73% for all vaccines and 74% for the anthrax vaccine on the VAERS index immunization date. Our study is the first to quantify the agreement between immunization records in VAER
