BACKGROUND: Epidural spinal cord stimulation (eSCS) is canonically used for the treatment of intractable, chronic pain. Recent efforts have successfully utilized eSCS to improve neurological deficits in patients with spinal cord injury. However, there is a paucity of literature on the use of eSCS for demyelinating conditions, with no prior case reports examining eSCS among patients with transverse myelitis (TM).
OBSERVATIONS: Two patients with TM underwent eSCS and experienced improvements in motor function and bladder symptoms. The first patient exhibited enhanced motor strength in both lowe

BACKGROUND: Retrospective studies suggest that spinal movement disorders, especially tonic spasms, are prevalent in NMOSD. However, there have been no prospective studies evaluating spinal movement disorders in NMOSD, MOGAD, and idiopathic transverse myelitis (ITM).
METHODS: Patients referred to a tertiary neuroimmunology clinic for spinal cord demyelination (excluding MS) were evaluated. All patients answered a movement disorders survey and underwent a movement disorder-focused exam. Movement disorders were compared among patients with NMOSD with and without AQP4-IgG, MOGAD, and ITM. Patient

Objective: Longitudinally extensive transverse myelitis (LETM) could be seen in patients with connective tissue disease (CTD), especially systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) or primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS). Some patients are combined with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD)(termed CTD-LETM-NMOSD) while others without (termed CTD-LETM-non-NMOSD). The aim of this study is to compare the clinical characteristics of CTD-LETM-NMOSD patients to CTD-LETM-non-NMOSD patients. Methods: We retrospectively collected data from 40 CTD patients with LETM who were admitted to the Department of

Longitudinal extensive transverse myelitis (LETM) is a rare but recognised complication of vaccination. We report the case of a 58-year-old man admitted to hospital 10 days after his first AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccination with progressive neurological symptoms and signs, and investigations and imaging consistent with LETM.This case reviews the literature and the investigative process behind excluding other diagnoses given the patient's background of pulmonary sarcoidosis. It is unique in being the first UK report of a case of LETM with a strong temporal link to COVID-19 vaccination.

We present the case of a 40-year-old male with recent history of moderately differentiated invasive adenocarcinoma of the sigmoid in whom both respiratory and neurological disease developed simultaneously, mimicking diffuse metastatic disease. The broad differential diagnosis and pitfalls (both diagnostic and therapeutic) are described. Pulmonary sarcoidosis as well as neurosarcoidosis occur very rarely after solid cancers.

Transverse myelitis is one of the causes of acute transverse myelopathy; three main categories are described in the differential diagnosis of transverse myelitis: demyelination (multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica), infections (herpes zoster and herpes simplex virus), and some autoimmune connective tissue disorders (systemic lupus erythematosus, vasculitis). The authors present a clinical case of a 33-year-old patient with transverse myelitis occurring in the course of acute inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (Guillain-Barré syndrome). The patient's medical history was nota

Varicella infection in children is a common self-limited illness with neurological complications in less than 0.1% of cases. Longitudinally extensive transverse myelitis (LETM) is uncommon in children following infection with varicella-zoster virus. We describe a case of 13-yr immunocompetent girl with LETM following varicella infection shown a dramatic clinical response to a combination of acyclovir and pulse steroids.

Transverse myelitis is a segmental, full-thickness inflammation of the spinal cord with various etiologies including varicella zoster virus infection. Symptoms can manifest as sensory deficits, severe lower back pain radiating down the legs, bowel/bladder incontinence, and extremity weakness. This case report is unique in that it highlights a patient who developed long-segment transverse myelitis after a varicella zoster virus infection which has not been previously reported in the literature.

We describe a case of coexisting transverse myelitis and Guillain-Barré syndrome related to infection with Bartonella henselae proteobacterium and review similar serology-proven cases. B. henselae infection might be emerging as a cause of myelitis and Guillain-Barré syndrome and should be considered as an etiologic factor in patients with such clinical presentations.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Transverse myelitis (TM) is a rare neuro-inflammatory condition of the spinal cord that can cause chronic and debilitating symptoms reducing quality of life. TM is understudied in developing regions worldwide, particularly in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), where the prevalence of TM is unknown. Etiologies of TM are variable, but certain infectious, autoimmune or nutritional abnormalities may be more common in LAC with differing estimated prevalences of these etiologies. Given the paucity of data available on TM in LAC, we conducted a systematic review of the

BACKGROUND: Transverse myelitis (TM) is a rare inflammatory disorder of the spinal cord resulting in neurological impairments that impact motor function and mobility. Blood flow restriction (BFR) training has emerged as a feasible intervention in neurologic populations to improve strength and functional performance. Recent studies suggest that combining BFR with neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) may further enhance outcomes.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of an 8-week, low-intensity lower-extremity resistance training program incorporating BFR (2×/week for 4 weeks) followed by c

RATIONALE: Longitudinal extensive transverse myelitis (LETM) is a rare form of acute transverse myelitis occurring in 1%-2% of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) cases. It often leads to severe sensory and motor deficits with bowel and bladder dysfunction. Reports of complete functional recovery in SLE-related LETM are limited, and the significance of early and aggressive intervention remains insufficiently understood.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 31-year-old female with prediabetes and iron deficiency anemia was hospitalized for hematochezia and diarrhea. On the third day of admission, she experience

BACKGROUND: Acute transverse myelitis (ATM), acute flaccid myelitis with polio-like myeloradiculitis (AFM) and Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) are severe neuroimmune disorders associated with high morbidity. First-line treatments include corticosteroids and intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIg), but they may be insufficient. Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) and immunoadsorption (IA) are second- or third-line options in pediatrics, despite their recognized efficacy in adults. Data on pediatric use remain limited. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of apheresis in children with ATM
