Ganglioneuroblastoma is a rare neoplasm of adults. Some information about the natural history and response to therapy can be obtained from two cases seen recently at our hospital and 17 cases in the literature. These tumors occur in adults of any age and are usually located in the retroperitoneum, mediastinum, or neck. Evidence of the tumor may be present years before diagnosis. Elevations of urinary catecholamines were documented in three cases and the levels correlated with progression or resection of the neoplasm. The tumor spreads either by local invasion or distant metastasis. Attempts at

BACKGROUND: Lymph node dissection is required for many pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms. However, the need for such dissection has rarely been examined in detail by the tumor size, tumor location, or World Health Organization grading. The objective is to determine which characteristics of pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms require lymph node dissection, and to what extent lymph node dissection should be performed.
METHODS: A retrospective review was performed of patients who had undergone pancreatectomy with lymph node dissection between 2000 and 2022. Frequency of lymph node metastases s

Leiomyosarcoma (LMS), a malignant neoplasm of smooth muscle cell origin, is relatively rare in birds. This study presents the occurrence of this tumour in a 2-year-old male budgerigar. The bird was brought to the Ashian Veterinary Hospital with complaints of swelling in the medial area of the left leg. Clinical examination and radiological imaging confirmed the presence of soft tissue swelling in the medial region of the left leg. Empirical antibiotic and anti-inflammatory therapy were used to distinguish infectious inflammation from the tumour mass. After 12 days, a clinical diagnosis of susp

Oral melanoma is an aggressive neoplasm arising from melanocytes in the mucosal epithelium, accounting for 0.2%-0.8% of all melanomas. Unlike cutaneous melanoma, it is not associated with UV exposure, and its pathogenesis involves complex genetic and molecular alterations. This neoplasm predominantly affects older adults (≥ 60 years). Clinically, lesions often present as macular or nodular with an exophytic growth pattern, sometimes ulcerated, and exhibit varied pigmentation. Diagnosis is further complicated by non-pigmented (amelanotic) variants that can resemble other oral pigmentations. Wid

This multi-institutional report describes 8 cases of rhabdomyosarcoma in horses. Four neoplasms were in the tongue and other areas of the mouth or head, 2 were in the abdominal wall, and 1 each was in right shoulder muscles and heart. Four rhabdomyosarcomas that were less than 10 cm in diameter were treated by surgical excision or radiation with no recurrence. Two neoplasms greater than 10 cm in diameter in the abdominal wall and the right shoulder were considered inoperable and led to decisions to euthanize the horses. Two neoplasms were incidental findings at necropsy. All the neoplasms were

Hemangiosarcoma is an uncommon but highly aggressive malignant vascular neoplasm in horses, most often identified as a disseminated process at postmortem examination. This report describes an adult Warmblood mare presenting with acute hemorrhagic diarrhea, severe anemia, and thrombocytopenia associated with disseminated hemangiosarcoma likely originating in the transverse colon with metastasis to the liver and lungs. This case highlights gastrointestinal hemangiosarcoma as a potential differential diagnosis in horses with unexplained bicytopenia and hemorrhagic enteropathy.

Microcalcifications are frequently associated with papillary thyroid cancers. Metastatic nodules from extrathyroid malignancies may mimic primary thyroid neoplasm on sonography, but do not present with microcalcifications. We report the case of a 45-year-old woman with a history of invasive ductal carcinomas of bilateral breasts, status post surgery and neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Four years after surgery, thyroid sonography revealed diffuse microcalcifications without nodular component. Core needle biopsy confirmed thyroid metastasis from primary breast cancer.

Sebaceous carcinoma of the eyelid, an extremely rare neoplasm, can resemble blepharitis, conjunctivitis, or chalazion, as in the case presented here. A biopsy specimen should be examined if these conditions fail to respond to therapy, especially if the lesion is unilateral. The tumor can be multifocal, and pagetoid proliferation is common. Therefore, recurrences are common after conservative surgery, even if frozen sections are obtained from the margins. Orbital exenteration may be necessary to prevent metastasis.

BACKGROUND: Pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma (PCPG) is a benign neuroendocrine neoplasm in most cases, but metastasis and other malignant behaviors can be observed in this tumor. The aim of this study was to identify genes associated with the metastasis of PCPG.
METHODS: The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) expression profile data and clinical information were downloaded from the cbioportal, and the weighted gene coexpression network analysis (WGCNA) was conducted. The gene coexpression modules were extracted from the network through the WGCNA package of R software. We further extracted metastasis-re

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is an aggressive salivary gland neoplasm characterized by high rates of local recurrence, early metastasis, and a poor long-term prognosis. Approximately 20-50% of cases result in distant metastasis, commonly involving the lung, bone, liver, and brain. Cutaneous metastasis is a rare occurrence, with a small number of cases reported previously in the context of multiple metastatic sites of involvement. We present a unique case of ACC of the hard palate with isolated cutaneous metastasis. A 36-year-old woman underwent a subtotal maxillectomy and skull base resectio

Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA), the second most common subtype of primary liver cancer around the world, is an aggressive neoplasm with high metastastic potential, which leads to a low rate of curative resections and dismal prognosis. In previous studies, Sulfatase 2 (SULF2) has been reported to regulate various important oncogenic signaling pathways and promote iCCA progression. Further research is needed to explore the role of SULF2 in iCCA metastasis. In this study, we verified the overexpression of SULF2 in iCCA tissues and its positive correlation with advanced stage and poor prog

INTRODUCTION: Intestinal adenosquamous carcinoma (ASC) is a rare colorectal neoplasm frequently occurring at onset as a locally advanced disease with distant metastases. The liver is the most common site of metastasis, followed by the peritoneum and the lung. Cutaneous metastases from usual colorectal adenocarcinoma occur in about 3% of cases, both at the time of diagnosis in advanced disease and during the follow-up. To the best of our knowledge, skin metastasis from ASC has never been described, and no biological landscape of ASC has ever been investigated.
METHODS: We report a case of sync

Oral malignant melanoma (OMM) is the most common canine melanocytic neoplasm. Overlap between the somatic mutation profiles of canine OMM and human mucosal melanomas suggest a shared UV-independent molecular aetiology. In common with human mucosal melanomas, most canine OMM metastasise. There is no reliable means of predicting canine OMM metastasis, and systemic therapies for metastatic disease are largely palliative. Herein, we employed exon microarrays for comparative expression profiling of FFPE biopsies of 18 primary canine OMM that metastasised and 10 primary OMM that did not metastasise.

BACKGROUND: The current American Joint Committee on Cancer/International Union Against Cancer classification designates cervical and mediastinal lymph nodes as regional lymph nodes. In a unilateral thyroid neoplasm, however, involvement of the contralateral cervical lymph node compartment or the mediastinal lymph node compartment, both of which have been designated "distant" lymph nodes, may serve as a surrogate parameter of distant metastases.
METHODS: This institutional series consisted of 105 consecutive patients with medullary thyroid cancer who underwent systematic dissections of both di

BACKGROUND: Leiomyosarcomas are characterized by slow growth and late metastasis and most often involve the lung, liver and subcutaneous tissue. Metastasis to the breast is rare, with only four cases published in the English-language literature to date. Because of its rarity and the prolonged time interval between the diagnosis of the primary tumor and involvement of distant sites, accurate diagnosis of these tumors can be challenging. Evaluation of the cytomorphologic features of the tumor, ancillary immunocytochemical staining and detailed medical history of the patient are essential to maki

Although several studies have addressed different aspects of mucinous neoplasms arising in the ovary, such as their clinicopathologic features, immunohistochemical profile, and molecular characteristics, no study has presented an analysis of the ovarian tissue where these neoplasms arise. In this study, we included 196 cases of intestinal-type ovarian mucinous neoplasms in premenopausal patients. Our main goal was to perform a rigorous examination of the ovarian tissue surrounding these neoplasms. We also reviewed the clinicopathologic features of these cases. For comparison, the background ov

Rectal signet ring cell carcinoma represents a rare subtype of colorectal adenocarcinoma known for its aggressive biological nature and poor prognosis. Although the co-occurrence of colorectal carcinoma with other tumors has been reported, the uncommon phenomenon of tumor-to-tumor metastasis, first described in 1930, remains rare. The most frequent donor neoplasms are lung or breast carcinomas, whereas cerebral meningiomas have been reported to be the most frequent recipient neoplasms. Here we report a case of a typical lipomatous tumor harboring metastatic signet ring cell rectal carcinoma. I
