Oncolytic virotherapy (OVT) is a promising approach in which WT or engineered viruses selectively replicate and destroy tumor cells while sparing normal ones. In the last two decades, different oncolytic viruses (OVs) have been modified and tested in a number of preclinical studies, some of which have led to clinical trials in cancer patients. These clinical trials have revealed several critical limitations with regard to viral delivery, spread, resistance, and antiviral immunity. Here, we focus on promising research strategies that have been developed to overcome the aforementioned obstacles.

Pyrethroids show moderate acute oral toxicity in rodents, and their typical toxicological signs are tremors (T syndrome) for Type I (generally non-cyano pyrethroids) and choreoathetosis with salivation (CS syndrome) for Type II (generally α-cyano pyrethroids). p53 deficient mice have been found to be highly prone to develop tumors spontaneously. In particular, the thymic lymphoma was observed predominantly, which is not the case for p53-related tumorigenesis in human. To elucidate this differences, I tried to rescue the p53 deficient mice from lymphoma originated in thymus by allowing the p53 expression in their lymphocytes by using transgenic technique. Nocturnal (23.00-07.00 h) urinary melatonin and total biopterin (tBI; after acidic oxidation of reduced biopterins) were analyzed during the growth of two passages of a mammary tumor line in female F344 Fischer rats. In addition, nocturnal (02.00-03.00 h) peak concentrations of pineal melatonin in plasma were analyzed when tumors had reached comparable average tumor volumes of 25-30 cm3. Since tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) is produced by murine macrophages in response to interferon-gamma released by activated T lymphocytes, measurements of tBI can serve to estimate the state of cellular immunity.

Transplantation of Yoshida sarcoma (solid type) and Zajdela ascites hepatoma tumors in rats induces a biphasic change in the concentration of the following five acute-phase proteins: alpha-1-acid glycoprotein; alpha-1-antitrypsin; haptoglobin; hemopexin; and ceruloplasmin. Vaccinia virus was shown to exert a stimulating effect on the emergence of spontaneous neoplasia and Rauscher virus-induced hemoblastoses in BALB/cJLacSto mice. The mechanism of the stimulating effect is discussed.

When 200 mg of diethylnitrosamine per kg of body weight was administered with a stomach tube once a week to female Wistar W.64 rats, all of them died within three weeks from severe hepatocellular injuries and haemorrhages of the liver, lungs and small intestine. OBJECTIVE: A case of acute wheezing causing primitive thyroid lymphoma observed ay the Operative Unit of General and Thoracic Surgery of the University "P Giaccone" of Palermo, Italy, is reported.
EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: Diagnostic, clinical and prognostic indication, evaluation of effectveness of radical surgical treatment and follow-up.
INTERVENTION: Emergency radical surgical treatment (debulking) and surgical tracheostomy (tracheal infiltration).
RESULTS: Complete recovery with "restitutio ad integrum". No relapse were recorded ad short follow-up.

Biological activity of cytokine hreeTNF-alpha was tested on a transplantable Morris hepatoma 5123 in Buffalo rats. Local effects of hrecTNF-alpha activity were evaluated basing on morphological examinations. The cytokine effects on tumor biometric parameters and body mass of experimental animals were analyzed. The authors have explored the suitability of the Mongolian gerbil as a model in aging research and reviewed data on major factors in gerbil morbidity and mortality.
