From 1975 to 1993, 11 of 375 patients treated for soft tissue sarcoma presented with post-irradiation sarcoma. The mean time interval between irradiation therapy and onset of the second neoplasm was 15.8 years (4-31 years). The total radiation dosage ranged from 12 to 60 Gy with a mean of 40 Gy. All patients had complete staging including CT or MRI of the tumour site, and CT of the lung. Surgical resection was the treatment of choice. Wide margins could be achieved in 10 patients. BACKGROUND: Soft-Tissue Sarcoma (STS) is a heterogeneous group of neoplasms of mesenchymal origin, occurring in connective tissues. According to previously conducted studies, STS accounts for approximately 1% and 7-%15% of adult and pediatric malignancies, respectively. Almost 50%-60% of sarcomas arise from extremities and usually present as a large painless or rarely painful soft-tissue mass. We report the case of a 28-year-old man who presented at the emergency department with recent left painful scrotal swelling, without history of genitourinary infection or trauma. On physical examination, left scrotal swelling with nodular palpation was noted. Contrast enhanced sonography demonstrated nodular vascularized thickening of the tunica vaginalis. Surgical exploration revealed multiples solid nodules of the vaginal wall, with, at frozen section analysis, fibroblastic tissue, vessels and chronic inflammation without malignity, suggestive of fibrous pseudotumor of the tunica vaginalis.
