We report a rare case of mediastinal nonseminomatous germ cell tumor arising after 2 complete resections of mediastinal mature teratomas 18 and 10 years prior. After three cycles of chemotherapy for the mediastinal nonseminomatous germ cell tumor, the serum α-fetoprotein and β-human chorionic gonadotropin levels were normalized. However, chest radiography revealed that the mediastinal tumor had remarkably increased in size, and thus growing teratoma syndrome was diagnosed. Germ cell tumors are highly curable when treated appropriately. The majority of germ cell tumors arise in the testes, with a proportion having pulmonary parenchymal or mediastinal metastases. For patients who have such tumors, prompt diagnosis and treatment with chemotherapy are essential. We reviewed 16 patients treated for primary extragonadal germ cell tumors whose testes were initially negative for cancer at palpation. Residues compatible with an occult testicular primary, overlooked at the pretreatment examination, were found in 10 of 12 patients with retroperitoneal germ cell tumors, whereas the testes in all 4 patients with mediastinal germ cell tumors showed no pathological signs. The risk of gonadal germ cell tumors is increased over the lifetime of patients with XY-disorders of sex development (XY-DSD). The aim of this study was to evaluate clinical features and histopathological outcome after gonadectomy in patients with XY-DSD to assess the risk of malignant transformation to gonadal germ cell tumors. Flagellate dermatitis is a relatively rare reaction to toxicity. It appears as skin lesions with erythematous patches or papules of linear, multiple, flagellate structures. Flagellate dermatitis can be triggered by several causes, which are most commonly associated with bleomycin. This paper reports two cases of flagellate dermatitis, one in a patient with germ cell carcinoma and another in a patient with osteosarcoma who were both diagnosed with flagellate dermatitis after the administration of bleomycin.
