Multiple primary malignancies involving lung cancer: a single-center experience.

OBJECTIVE: Currently, unlike earlier years, patients affected by multiple primary malignancies (MPM) are significantly increased, thus representing a clinical-pathologic category worthy of attention. Their clinical features and prognosis still need to be studied thoroughly, and this is the aim of our study. METHODS: Patients with MPM involving lung cancer admitted in our center between January 2006 and December 2016 were considered. Parametric and nonparametric testing was used for statistical comparisons. Univariate and multivariate analysis was used to evaluate the variables associated with

Synchronous two distinct neuroendocrine lung cancer lesions.

The synchronous primary lung tumors is a rare condition and presented patient is the first reported case of simultaneous two distinct neuroendocrine lung cancer lesions in the same lobe. We present the case of a 55-year-old woman with synchronous two distinct neuroendocrine lung cancer lesions in the right upper lobe. Initially she showed no signs or symptoms related to lung lesions and was admitted to Thoracic Surgery Ward for the investigation of two oval, solitary pulmonary nodules (11 and 19 mm in diameter) detected on a chest X-ray performed three months earlier. The radiological imaging

A second primary malignancy in a cohort of patients with epithelial ovarian cancer--characteristics of diagnosis.

As the life expectancy of cancer patients has been extended because of earlier diagnosis and improved therapeutic modalities, second primary tumors are being diagnosed more frequently. We have examined the clinical characteristics of 38 second primary tumors in a cohort of patients diagnosed with epithelial ovarian cancer in our department over a 6-year period. The most frequent neoplasm associations were in decreasing order of occurrence: ovary-breast, ovary-endometrium, and ovary-gastro-intestinal tract. Most heterochronous second primary tumors have been diagnosed following patient symptoms

[Transitional carcinomas of the urinary tract: synchronous and metachronous lesions].

OBJECTIVE: The urothelium is a pseudostratified cylindrical epithelium that lines the calices, renal pelvis, urethers, bladder, part of the urethra and part of the prostate ducts. Transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) is a malignant neoplasia that can appear in any site where urothelium is present, being the bladder the most frequently affected organ. We performed an analysis of our experience and conducted a literature-based metanalysis to evaluate the coexistence of tumoral lesions at different locations in the urinary tract. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Between 1983 and 1993, 397 patients with TCC le

Multiple malignant tumors in a patient with familial chordoma, a case report.

BACKGROUND: Chordoma is a rare bone tumor that is typically resistant to chemotherapy and is associated with genetic abnormalities of the T-box transcription factor T (TBXT) gene, which encodes the transcription factor brachyury. Brachyury is felt to be a major contributor to the development of chordomas. CASE PRESENTATION: We describe a 67-year-old woman who developed an undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma in her thigh. Despite treatment with standard chemotherapy regimens, she had a rapidly progressive course of disease with pulmonary metastases and passed away 8 months from diagnosis with

Multiple poromas in a bone marrow transplant recipient: A case report.

A poroma is a benign epithelial neoplasm that most commonly presents as a solitary papule on the palm or sole. We report the case of a 25-year-old male, with a history of acute myelogenous leukemia, who developed multiple poromas on the feet. Poromatosis - the occurrence of multiple poromas - has been described in six adults and one child; it appears to be more prevalent in patients with a history of lymphoproliferative disorder or radiation exposure.

Multinodular goiter and primary hyperparathyroidism: a circuitous route to diagnosing metastatic uveal melanoma.

Uveal melanoma spreads exclusively via a hematogenous route and is notable for its latency. Liver metastases are common; however, metastatic spread to unusual sites has been encountered. We report the case of metastatic uveal melanoma in a woman with multinodular goiter and primary hyperparathyroidism. The patient presented with hypercalcemia and an elevated intact parathyroid hormone level, in conjunction with a follicular neoplasm in the setting of goiter. She underwent an uneventful total thyroidectomy and parathyroidectomy. Postoperatively, she became normocalcemic. Histopathologic analyse

Synchronous Occurrence of Triple-Negative Breast Cancer and Malignant Melanoma.

In people with cancer, multiple primary malignant neoplasms (MPMNs) are not unusual, and they may be caused by risk factors such as genetics, viral infection, smoking, environmental factors, or treatment-related variables. The frequency of MPMNs occurring in the same or separate organ systems is between 2% and 17%. The 5-year breast cancer survivors have been found to have around 3.6% chance of acquiring another neoplasm. In this case report, we present a very rare simultaneous occurrence of two highly malignant tumors - triple-negative breast cancer and cutaneous melanoma. We performed geneti

Incidental discovery of second primary lung tumors in breast cancer patients: an institutional case series.

BACKGROUND: Guidelines recommend biopsy of first breast cancer recurrence. Our group recently showed that only half of patients in Washington diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer (MBC) between 2008 and 2017 underwent biopsy. METHODS: Oncologists in our group identified patients in which a lung malignancy was diagnosed in patients with a breast cancer history. RESULTS: We identified eight illustrative cases. Lung findings were typically identified on a CT obtained for staging or radiation planning. In five cases, patients were treated curatively for two early-stage malignancies. In two cas

Cytomorphology of metastatic dedifferentiated/undifferentiated melanoma to the gallbladder: A case report and review of literature.

Dedifferentiated/undifferentiated melanoma (DM/UM) is a distinct subtype of malignant melanoma that tends to lose all melanocytic markers of differentiation. DM/UM pose major diagnostic challenges as they could be easily confused with UM sarcoma or carcinoma, thus necessitating the use of molecular studies such as Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) for detecting melanoma-compatible mutations to confirm such diagnosis. The capability of performing NGS molecular studies on small biopsy material with confirmation of adequacy via rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) has tremendous value in diagnosing DM/

Case report: A rare case of tumor-to-tumor metastasis: metastatic lobular breast carcinoma to clear cell renal cell carcinoma.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Tumor-to-tumor metastasis is a rare phenomenon. Although renal cell carcinoma is the most common recipient tumor, metastatic lobular breast carcinoma to clear cell renal cell carcinoma is even rarer, with only one case reported to date. We present a 66-year-old female patient with an invasive lobular carcinoma history who was admitted to the hospital with a right renal mass. The patient received partial nephrectomy. The final established diagnosis is lobular breast carcinoma metastasizing to clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). Thus, although rare, the simultaneous or consecutive find of a

Validation of four cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma staging systems using nationwide data.

BACKGROUND: Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is the second most common cancer worldwide with relatively low metastatic potential (2-5%). Developments in therapeutic options have highlighted the need to better identify high-risk patients who could benefit from closer surveillance, adjuvant therapies and baseline/follow-up imaging, while at the same time safely omitting low-risk patients from further follow-up. Controversy remains regarding the predictive performance of current cSCC staging systems and which methodology to adopt. OBJECTIVES: To validate the performance of four cSCC stag
