BACKGROUND: We have reported the positive association of the cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2)/prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) axis with liver fibrosis induced by Schistosoma japonicum (Sj) infection, and TLR4 signaling controlled this axis. However, how COX-2 regulates immune response during Sj infection is still unclear.

Abstract-Molluscicidal bioassays and electrochemical studies (measurement of first wave reduction potential, Epcl) were performed on several synthetic nitroaromatics, in relation to possible correlation between biological activity, redox potential and structural effects. Ninety-six patients suffering from alopecia areata have been treated with topical immunotherapy. Fifty-one have been treated with dinitrochlorobenzene and 45 with squaric acid dibutylester. Analysis of our group showed that 55 patients out of those 96, who entered the study, experienced hair regrowth during a period of 6-17 weeks of treatment. The effects of treatment with topical 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB) were observed in fifty-one patients with alopecia areata of at least 9 months duration. The local cutaneous inflammatory response to DMCB sensitization was positive in only 35% of 20 uremic patients, and the delayed skin reaction was positive in only 15%. The reaction to DMCB challenge was markedly delayed in some patients. Improved response to DNCB re-challenge followed levamisole administration in only 16% of the patients and was not associated with a rise in blood lymphocytes.
