In this study poly (4-nitrophenylazo-3-aminopyridine - formaldehyde) (PNAAP-F) and poly (4-nitroarylazo-3-chloro-6-hydroxypyridine - formaldehyde) (NAACHP-F) were synthesized via diazotization, coupling and polycondensation reactions. This 75-year-old woman had phacomorphic angle closure, dense nuclear sclerosis, deep set eye, miotic pupil and tight corneal wound during phacoemulsification. Phacoemulsification wound burn was noted at the end of surgery. Tenon was harvested from the inferior conjunctiva, placed over the gape and anchored by two radial corneoscleral 10-0 nylon. UNLABELLED: We present a case of corneal perforation secondary to an intrastromal astigmatic keratotomy performed with an optical coherence tomography-guided femtosecond laser. The keratotomy was concomitant with cataract surgery and resulted in a flat anterior chamber prior to the start of lens extraction. Interrupted nylon sutures were placed to seal the keratotomy prior to phacoemulsification. Escape of cavitation bubbles into the anterior chamber or the liquid interface can alert the surgeon to the possibility of unintended perforation of the endothelium or the epithelium, respectively.

Interstitial lung disease (ILD) due to inhalation of fume/smoke from heating or burning of synthetic polymers has not been reported previously. A fish farm worker developed ILD after cutting rope (polypropylene and nylon) for about 2 hours per day over an extended period using an electrically heated 'knife'. This process produced fume/smoke that entered the workers breathing zone. No other likely cause was identified. This case suggests that exposure to airborne contaminants generated by the heating or burning of synthetic polymers has the potential to cause serious lung disease.

PURPOSE: To reduce hypotony and shallowing of the anterior chamber after seton implantation.
METHODS: The silicone tube is ligated with an 8-0 nylon suture and a clear corneal graft placed over the tube to facilitate postoperative laser suture lysis.
RESULTS: Laser suture lysis has been performed in 34 cases to date with a follow-up period of up to 26 months. No severe complications occurred after laser suture lysis.
CONCLUSIONS: This technique provides another option to increase drainage postoperatively without the risk of releasable sutures or instrumentation within the eye.
