AIM: To observe the efficacy of artemether compound against vivax malaria.
METHODS: Each artemether compound tablet contains 120 mg benflumetolum and 20 mg artemether. 132 patients with vivax malaria were divided into 3 groups. Group A, 36 patients received 8 tablets as an initial dose, followed by 4 tablets daily for 2 days; group B, 41 patients received 8 tablets as an initial dose, followed by 3 tablets daily for 4 days; group C, 55 patients receiving chloroguine-primaquine served as control. The authors presented a case report of a seven-year-old male with eight submerged primary molars and a primary lateral incisor. Sotos syndrome is included among the overgrowth disorders, most of which have an increased risk of neoplasms. Sotos syndrome does not appear to be related to a specific tumor type, but rather to the development of solid tumors of ectodermal or mesodermal origin in general. We report on two Sotos syndrome patients who developed a non-Hodgkin lymphoma and an acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, respectively. We have performed sleep nasendoscopy on 54 adult snorers in whom obstructive sleep apnoea had been excluded by an overnight sleep study. The purpose of the study was to identify the site or sites of noise production in each case. This was successfully achieved in 50 of the 54 and 70% showed palatal flutter snoring only. A 60-year-old woman was treated postoperatively for carcinoma of the gall bladder with a split course of radiotherapy. The tumour dose (TD) was 61.2 Gy in 34 fractions delivered by an anterior and two lateral wedge fields with 60Co; the Dmax was 70% of TD for the anterior field and 150% of the TD at the thin edge of the wedges. Percutaneous balloon mitral valvuloplasty (PBMV) was successfully performed in 50 selected patients with mitral stenosis by using Inoue pillow-shaped balloon and Inoue technique. The average diameter of balloon used was 26.9 +/- 0.9 mm. 90% (45/50) of cases had either double or single mitral commissura split. The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between autism and childhood psychosis. Fifteen children with psychotic symptoms were compared to 15 children with autism, using two observational measures, the Ritvo-Freeman Real Life Rating Scale (RLRS) and the Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS), which rate subjects on behaviors pathognomic to autism. Among 172 examined male patients varicoceles have been found in 57.6% patients. The frequency of varicocele appearance increased according to the fall of sperm concentration. Simple relations between sperm motility and varicocele have not been observed. Larger per cent of pathological sperm forms in patients with varicoceles has been shown. In patients with varicoceles three times as frequent appearance of richer periprostatic and periseminnal blood vessels have been observed in comparison with patients without varicocele.

Personal observation comprise 495 operations of corneal transplantation in the period of 1972-1987. The best results (80-100 per cent successes) were achieved in cases of keratoconus, Groenuow's corneal dystrophy, Salzmann's nodular degeneration, pterygium, corneal dermoid and leukoma due to viral keratitis; fewer successful results (46 p.c.) were seen in leukomas caused by corneal burn. Corneal graft rejection occurred in 67 cases (13.5 p.c.).
