INTRODUCTION:: Subjective facial analysis is a diagnostic method that provides morphological analysis of the face. Thus, the aim of the present study was to compare the facial and dental diagnoses and investigate their relationship.

This short review is an opportunity to focus on significant positive changes for those children born with some form of oro-facial clefting and who are treated in a centralised service within the National Health Service (NHS). There has also been an opportunity to provide a focus for research as part of this service model. Orthodontists have played a key role in all aspects of this and will continue to be central to further improvements in caring for cleft children.

Unerupted permanent canines can present orthodontists with special challenges. Conventional two-dimensional panoramic radiographs identify the presence or absence of unerupted canines and can only help approximate their locations, when used with various classification schemes in attempts to describe their locations and estimate treatment difficulties. This article suggests using three-dimensional cone beam CT imaging as a direct objective method of evaluation and treatment planning, thereby eliminating the need for using a subjective system of classifying palatally-impacted permanent canines.

The article describes case history and multiphase treatment of the patient with attacks of vertigo, initially regarded as the onset of Meniere's disease, but later qualified as secondary positional attacks with combined musculoskeletal pathology of the craniovertebral region and temporomandibular joint. Medicinal, local and surgical treatment led to the perfect result. Thus, the team work of neurologist, otolaryngologist, maxillofacial surgeon and orthodontist led to the successful elimination of vertigo attacks.

This article describes a combined surgical-orthodontic method to manage impacted teeth, primarily maxillary canines. The method uses a modified type of ligation chain that enables the oral surgeon to lasso the tooth with ease and affords the orthodontist large, successively placed eyelets to which he can easily tie elastic thread in order to keep continuous heavy force pulling the tooth toward the oral cavity.

Cleft lip and cleft palate are among the most common congenital defects of the head. The treatment of clefts is centralized, multidisciplinary, and involves a plastic surgeon, orthodontist, anesthesiologist, clinical speech therapist, and other specialists. While the incidence of cleft lip and cleft palate remains approximately unchanged, the approach to their treatment is evolving. Modern treatment methods increasingly include 3D printing and the associated therapeutic and educational possibilities.

Graphical model is established based on frontal cephalometric for differential diagnostic of transverse morphological and functional abnormalities of the mandible. Eight graphical models are made which cover and dinstinguish possible transverse variations of mandible position and morphology taking into account the asymmetry of the mandible, rotation and translation of the joints and the combinations thereof. With these eight detailed models an orthodontist can accurately differentiate the problem and choose an adequate treatment plan.

Using the combined and coordinated services of surgeon and orthodontist from the time of birth, individuals born with complete clefts of the lip and palate now have a better possibility of full esthetic and functional use of all of their maxillary permanent anterior dentition.

This case report illustrates how an interdisciplinary team diagnosis led to occlusal correction of a significant postorthodontic malocclusion. Sixteen cases of cervical cystic lymphangioma are reported; all but two were present at birth. Intra-oral extensions were detected in five and three of these caused macroglossia resulting in partial respiratory obstruction. Mal-development of the jaws and consequent dental malocclusion is a possible complication of the condition. In planning the treatment of such patients, maxillo-facial surgeons and orthodontists should be consulted at an early stage. The treatment of choice is complete excision, but where vital structures are involved repeated sub-total excisions are advocated.

In this publication, Nager syndrome was analyzed in the literature and six patients from our clinic were evaluated in relation to symptoms, etiology and pathogenesis. The diseases to be considered when making a differential diagnosis are pointed out. Clarification of the etiology is still pending. Molecular genetic research in these patients is possibly the key for new findings. A case report illustrates the results of interdisciplinary treatment by the surgeon and orthodontist. Possibilities and problems in relation to therapy are demonstrated.
