Quantifying micro- and nanoplastics in blood, urine, and soft tissues using optimized cascaded microfiltration and pyrolysis-GC/MS for exposomic investigations.

Microplastics (1 μm-5 mm) and nanoplastics (<1 μm) arise from the breakdown of larger plastic materials through thermal, photochemical, and mechanical degradation. Due to the wide use and haphazard disposal of plastic wastes, micro- and nano-plastics (MNPs) are ubiquitously detected in air, water, soil, and food, which leads to growing concern about chronic exposure and potential health impacts. MNPs have been detected across trophic levels and in more than 1000 species, indicating their extensive bioaccumulation. Recent studies have also detected MNPs in multiple human tissues and bodily flui

Magnetic Mesoporous γ‑Fe2O3 Supports from Meso-MIL-88A via Controlled Oxidation-Reduction Pyrolysis: Enabling Recyclable Lipase Catalysis in Phospholipid Synthesis.

Enzyme immobilization on solid supports enhances stability and reusability, yet nanoscale carriers such as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) still face challenges in efficient recovery. While pyrolysis can magnetize Fe-MOFs, conventional methods often compromise either enzyme activity or structural integrity. This study presents a rational two-step oxidation-reduction (O-R) pyrolysis strategy to convert Meso-MIL-88A into a magnetically recyclable, mesoporous biocatalyst support (O-R500). Unlike one-step carbonization, which generates enzyme-incompatible Fe3O4, or carbonization-oxidation routes t

Pyrolysis-Mediated Polycyano Strategy for Directed Construction of Fe3C-Synergized Fe─N Carbon Nanotubes Heterostructure Toward High-Efficiency Oxygen Reduction Reaction.

Precise modulation of the coordination environment of Fe─Nx sites is crucial yet challenging for enhancing the intrinsic activity of single-atom Fe/N-codoped carbon catalysts toward the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Herein, N-doped carbon nanotubes embedded with Fe3C nanoparticles with abundant pyridinic-N and Fe─Nx active sites are prepared by simple pyrolysis of precursors containing Zn2+/Fe2+ and cyano groups. The optimized Fe3C/FeN@CNT-900 catalyst exhibits a remarkable ORR half-wave potential (E1/2) of 0.89 V versus RHE, along with exceptional methanol tolerance and SCN- resistance. Th

Pyrolysis Atmospheres and Temperatures Co-Mediated Spectral Variations of Biochar-Derived Dissolved Organic Carbon: Quantitative Prediction and Self-Organizing Maps Analysis.

Biochar-derived dissolved organic carbon (BDOC), as a highly activated carbonaceous fraction of biochar, significantly affects the environmental effect of biochar. This study systematically investigated the differences in the properties of BDOC produced at 300-750 °C in three atmosphere types (including N2 and CO2 flows and air limitation) as well as their quantitative relationship with biochar properties. The results showed that BDOC in biochar pyrolyzed in air limitation (0.19-2.88 mg/g) was more than that pyrolyzed in N2 (0.06-1.63 mg/g) and CO2 flows (0.07-1.74 mg/g) at 450-750 °C. The ali

Synthesis of CaO from waste shells for microwave-assisted catalytic pyrolysis of waste cooking oil to produce aromatic-rich bio-oil.

Energy shortage and environmental pollution have attracted long-term attention. In this study, CaO were prepared from waste eggshell (EGC), preserved egg shell (PEC), clam shell (CLC) and crab shell (CRC), which were then compared with commercial CaO (CMC) to catalyze microwave-assisted pyrolysis of waste cooking oil (WCO) for enrichment of aromatics in bio-oil. The characterization results indicated that EGC and CLC contained 95.54% and 95.61% CaO respectively, which were higher than that of CMC (95.11%), and the pore properties of EGC were the best. In addition, the effects of CaO type and c

Study on Pyrolysis Characteristics of SF6 in a Trace-Oxygen (O2) Environment: ReaxFFSFO Force Field Optimization and Reactive Molecular Dynamics Simulation.

The ReaxFFSFO force field for a SF6-O2 system is developed based on the density functional theory (DFT) calculation data. Then, a series of molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were performed. The results show that the main oxygen-containing compounds that appeared in the MD simulation include SOF4, SOF2, and SO2F2. The relative quantitative relationship between SOF2 and SOF4 can be used to determine the fault temperature. Besides, under overheating conditions, O2 rarely undergoes a self-cracking process to generate free O atoms. Instead, the basic route for O2 to participate in the SF6 pyrolys

Production of aromatic amines via catalytic co-pyrolysis of lignin and phenol-formaldehyde resins with ammonia over commercial HZSM-5 zeolites.

Aromatic amines could be produced from organic wastes via catalytic pyrolysis with ammonia that served not only as a carrier gas but also as a reactant. Aromatic amines of 14.2 C% with selectivity of 57.6% were obtained from phenol-formaldehyde resins via pyrolysis over commercial HZSM-5-3 zeolite (Si/Al ratio of 80) catalyst at 650 °C. Significant synergetic effects have been observed when lignin was added, which improved aromatic amines yield by 32.2% to 11.8 C% at the mixing weight ratio of lignin to PF resins of 1:1. HZSM-5-3 was slightly deactivated after 3 cycles with acid sites loss. Ca

Pyrolysis temperature shapes the structure and filtration capacity of spent-coffee-ground biochar for 1-μm microplastics and bacteria removal from wastewater.

Small microplastics are an increasing environmental concern due to their high mobility, large surface area-to-volume ratio, and ability to transport co-contaminants and microorganisms. Yet, particles in the 1-μm range remain difficult to quantify and remove, and standardized approaches to evaluate treatment performance are still lacking. This study addresses this methodological gap by combining controlled microplastic spiking in real secondary-treated wastewater with high-throughput flow cytometry for rapid quantification of 1-μm fluorescent microplastics and SYBR Green I-stained bacteria. N-Vinyl- and C-vinylpyrroles from azafulvenium methides. flash vacuum pyrolysis route to 5-Oxo-5H-pyrrolizines and 1-azabenzo[f]azulenes.

1-Azafulvenium methides, generated from pyrrolo[1,2-c]thiazole-2,2-dioxides' thermal extrusion of sulfur dioxide, led to the synthesis of functionalized pyrroles. The intramolecular trapping of these transient 8pi 1,7-dipoles in pericyclic reactions, namely sigmatropic [1,8]H shifts and 1,7-electrocyclization, allowed the synthesis of N-vinylpyrroles and C-vinylpyrroles which, under flash vacuum pyrolysis conditions, are converted into 5-oxo-5H-pyrrolizines or 4-oxo-1,4-dihydro-1-aza-benzo[f]azulenes, respectively. These heterocycles can also be obtained directly from FVP of pyrrolo[1,2-c]thia

Analysis of the Pyrolysis Kinetics, Reaction Mechanisms, and By-Products of Rice Husk and Rice Straw via TG-FTIR and Py-GC/MS.

This study employed thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and pyrolysis gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) to characterize and provide insights into the pyrolysis behaviors and by-products of rice husk (RH) and rice straw (RS). The primary pyrolysis range is partitioned into three stages, designated as pseudo-hemicellulose, pseudo-cellulose, and pseudo-lignin pyrolysis, by an asymmetric bi-Gaussian function. The average activation energies of the three pseudo-components of RH were estimated by the Flynn-Wall-Ozawa and Starink methods to
