Competing unconventional superconductivity and antiferromagnetism widely exist in several strongly correlated quantum materials whose direct simulation generally suffers from fermion sign problem. Here, we report unbiased quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) simulations on a sign-problem-free repulsive toy model with same on site symmetries as the standard Hubbard model on a 2D square lattice. Using QMC simulations, supplemented with mean-field and continuum field-theory arguments, we find that it hosts three distinct phases: a nodal d-wave phase, an antiferromagnet, and an intervening phase which hosts

Generative neural samplers offer a complementary approach to Monte Carlo methods for problems in statistical physics and quantum field theory. This paper tests the ability of generative neural samplers to estimate observables for real-world low-dimensional spin systems. It maps out how autoregressive models can sample configurations of a quantum Heisenberg chain via a classical approximation based on the Suzuki-Trotter transformation. We present results for energy, specific heat, and susceptibility for the isotropic XXX and the anisotropic XY chain are in good agreement with Monte Carlo result

Using the N=1 supersymmetric, spinning worldline quantum field theory formalism, we compute the conservative spin-orbit part of the momentum impulse Δp_{i}^{μ}, spin kick ΔS_{i}^{μ}, and scattering angle θ from the scattering of two spinning massive bodies (black holes or neutron stars) up to fourth post-Minkowskian (PM) order. These three-loop results extend the state of the art for generically spinning binaries from 3PM to 4PM. They are obtained by employing recursion relations for the integrand construction and advanced multiloop Feynman integral technology in the causal (in-in) worldline q

In the heavy-fermion metal YbRh_{2}Si_{2}, quantum criticality at a suppressed antiferromagnetic order is governed by the interplay of local magnetic moments and itinerant conduction electrons. We demonstrate how this can be investigated by a new experimental approach that enables the observation of electron spin resonance (ESR) across a broad range of frequencies and fields at very low temperatures. This allowed us to cover a large part of the phase diagram from the paramagnetic Fermi-liquid phase to the phase with antiferromagnetic order and including the quantum-critical regime. Both the ES

The investigation of the luminescence properties of CdTe/KBr composites with encapsulated quantum dots (QDs) of different sizes was performed and the influence of the KBr matrix on the luminescence properties of CdTe QDs was studied. Encapsulation of nanoparticles by a solid matrix caused a bathochromic shift in the luminescence peak and the shift value was the larger the smaller the size of the quantum dots. Interband quantum transition theory was used to explain the influence of the matrix on the luminescence properties of the capsulated CdTe QDs. Theoretical calculations showed that the obs

Exciton quantum phases of Bose-Einstein condensation, exciton insulators, and superfluidity are largely governed by exciton-exciton interactions. Manipulating these interactions has sparked tremendous efforts to investigate quantum-confined excitons in two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors. In typical 2D exciton systems, however, strong dipolar interactions can be accessible at the cost of optical deactivation with significantly reduced oscillator strengths. Here we observe an emergent dipolar exciton with strong interactions in 2D perovskites with a surface lattice reconstruction. To unravel th

The hydration of Pb2+ reflects the combined influence of relativistic 6s stabilization and the stereochemical activity of the 6s2 lone pair, giving rise to coordination environments often described as hemidirected or holodirected. To examine how these structural motifs emerge under ambient aqueous conditions, a 175 ps SCAN-QMCF-MD simulation was combined with DLPNO-CCSD(T) local energy decomposition (LED) analyses on representative first-shell configurations. The SCAN trajectory yields a compact first hydration shell with Pb-O distances centered at 2.37 Å and frequent fluctuations among six-,

The multienzyme cascade conversion of CO2 to methanol is a promising route for sustainable chemical synthesis, yet the reduction of formate to formaldehyde remains its major bottleneck. Here, we use quantum chemical calculations to elucidate the catalytic mechanism of formaldehyde dehydrogenase from Burkholderia multivorans (BmFaldDH). The lowest-energy pathway initiates with formate activation via a proton-relay network involving His52, Ser49, and the NADH ribose, followed by a concerted yet asynchronous proton-hydride transfer to yield methanediol with a barrier of 16.0 kcal mol-1. Lanthanide molecular magnets are promising candidates for quantum information technologies, but their discovery is limited by the computational cost of accurately predicting their electronic and magnetic properties. Multireference methods provide the required accuracy, yet their application at scale has been hindered by the need to manually select the model space (the states considered in the spin-orbit treatment). We present an automated multireference workflow for single-lanthanide complexes, based on complete active space wave functions followed by state-interaction spin-orbit (SISO) coupli

Particulate methane monooxygenase (pMMO) is an enzyme that converts methane into methanol at ambient temperature and pressure. Over the past three decades, the metal content and location of the active site have been highly controversial. Recent single-particle cryogenic electron-microscopy (cryo-EM) structures have furthered this debate. In this study, three cryo-EM structures (PDB entries 7s4h, 7s4j and 7ev9) are analysed by quantum refinement (QR). This approach augments traditional structural refinement with quantum-mechanical (QM) calculations for a small but interesting part of the protei

Methylation reactions catalyzed by S-adenosylmethionine (SAM)-dependent methyltransferases are essential to numerous biological functions, including gene expression regulation, epigenetic modifications, and biosynthesis of natural products. Dysregulation of these enzymes is associated with diseases, including cancer and neurodevelopmental disorders, making them attractive drug targets. This review explores the contribution of computational methods, particularly quantum chemical calculations and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, in elucidating the mechanisms of SAM-dependent methyltransferas

This paper reviews our historical developments of broken-symmetry (BS) and beyond BS methods that are applicable for theoretical investigations of metalloenzymes such as OEC in PSII. The BS hybrid DFT (HDFT) calculations starting from high-resolution (HR) XRD structure in the most stable S1 state have been performed to elucidate structure and bonding of whole possible intermediates of the CaMn4Ox cluster (1) in the Si (i = 0 ~ 4) states of the Kok cycle. The large-scale HDFT/MM computations starting from HR XRD have been performed to elucidate biomolecular system structures which are crucial f

Specialized pro-resolving lipid mediators (SPMs) are natural bioactive agents actively involved in inflammation resolution. SPMs act when uncontrolled inflammatory processes are developed, for instance, in patients of COVID-19 or other diseases. The so-called resolution pharmacology aims at developing new treatments based on the use of SPMs as agonists, which promote inflammation resolution without unwanted side effects. It has been shown that the biosynthesis of SPMs called eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)-derived E-series resolvins is initiated by aspirin-acetylated COX-2 from EPA, leading to 18-

In this theoretical study, quantum chemical analysis of five novel non-fullerene donor molecules designed from recently reported highly efficient (11.5%) donor molecule P2TBR, containing non-fused ring central thiophene-benzene-thiophene core, 2-D benzodithiophene donors, and end capped 3-methylrhodanine acceptors, has been performed to evaluate the photovoltaic parameters and their application in organic solar cells. These donor molecules consist of centrally introduced acrylonitrile acceptors in between thiophene-benzene-thiophene core of P2TBR, namely M1. Compounds M2-M5 were designed from

A novel class of quinolinol-based dimeric indium complexes (1-6) was synthesized and characterized using 1H and 13C(1H) NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. Compounds 1-6 exhibited typical low-energy absorption bands assignable to quinolinol-centered π-π* charge transfer (CT) transition. The emission spectra of 1-6 exhibited slight bathochromic shifts with increasing solvent polarity (p-xylene < tetrahydrofuran (THF) < dichloromethane (DCM)). The emission bands also showed a gradual redshift, with an increase in the electron-donating effect of substituents at the C5 position of the quinoli

In this work, feasible mechanisms and pathways of the C₂H₅O₂ + BrO reaction in the atmosphere were investigated using quantum chemistry methods, i.e., QCISD(T)/6-311++G(2df,2p)//B3LYP/6-311++G(2df,2p) levels of theory. Our result indicates that the title reaction occurs on both the singlet and triplet potential energy surfaces (PESs). Kinetically, singlet C₂H₅O₃Br and C₂H₅O₂BrO were dominant products under the atmospheric conditions below 300 K. CH₃CHO₂ + HOBr, CH₃CHO + HOBrO, and CH₃CHO + HBrO₂ are feasible to a certain extent thermodynamically. Because of high energy barriers, all products f

Charge and structural relaxation of electronically excited states in embedded systems are strongly affected by the environment. It is known that the largest part of environment effects comes from electrostatics. However, polarization can also play a role by tuning the electronic and geometrical properties of the states, finally modifying the fluorescence. Here we present the formulation of analytical excited-state gradients within a polarizable QM/MM approach and their implementation within the ONIOM framework. A time-dependent DFT level of theory is used in combination with an induced dipole

To better understand the efficient transformation of glucose to fructose catalyzed by chromium chlorides in imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs), density functional theory calculations have been carried out on a model system which describes the catalytic reaction by CrCl2 in 1,3-dimethylimidazolium chlorine (MMImCl) ionic liquid (IL). The reaction is shown to involve three fundamental processes: ring opening, 1,2-H migration, and ring closure. The reaction is calculated to exergonic by 3.8 kcal/mol with an overall barrier of 37.1 kcal/mol. Throughout all elementary steps, both CrCl2 and MMImC

H2S is shown, for the first time, to play an extraordinary dual role due to its nucleophilicity and reducing property with our single chemosensor, PND [4-(piperidin-1-yl) naphthalene-1,2-dione]. The initial nucleophilic attack via Michael addition (a lower concentration of H2S, blue fluorescence) is followed by the reduction of the 1,2-diketo functionality (a higher concentration of H2S, green fluorescence). This chemosensor, which also shows biological response, is remarkably effective in sensing the same analyte (H2S) at its different concentrations in a relay pathway via a fluorescence "off

Given the importance of Fe-NO complexes in both human biology and the global nitrogen cycle, there has been interest in understanding their diverse electronic structures. Herein a redox series of isolable iron nitrosyl complexes stabilized by a tris(phosphine)borane (TPB) ligand is described. These structurally characterized iron nitrosyl complexes reside in the following highly reduced Enemark-Feltham numbers: {FeNO}(8) , {FeNO}(9) , and {FeNO}(10) . These {FeNO}(8-10) compounds are each low-spin, and feature linear yet strongly activated nitric oxide ligands. Use of Mössbauer, EPR, NMR, UV/V
