The authors present a case of radiation recall dermatitis occurring in a patient receiving paclitaxel shortly after completion of radiation therapy. A brief review of previously reported taxane-induced radiation recall reactions is provided.

We report a man with a slowly progressive bulbar palsy 14 years after radiation therapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Electromyography demonstrated prominent myokymic and neuromyotonic discharges in muscles innervated by the lower cranial nerves. Late effects of radiation therapy can occur in the cranial nerve musculature that are similar to well-recognized syndromes affecting the brachial plexus and spinal cord.

Interventional procedures in angiography result in an increased radiation exposure for the physician, medical personnel, and the patient longer fluoroscopic times and of images as compared with pure diagnostic examinations. Damages like epilation and erythema are potential effects. Measures are proposed in this paper to reduce the radiation exposure. There are technical means and possibilities in the application technique. Quality checks and remote diagnosis support these measures in addition by assuring a continuous image quality.

Radiation therapy is an acceptable alternative for the treatment of many malignancies of the skin. Results are gratifying, and long-term sequelae are few. In basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas, radiation is often the best treatment when surgery is expected to cause excessive morbidity or mortality or require extensive reconstruction. Radiation should be considered as first-line treatment for tumors in the midfacial triangle. It is also very acceptable treatment for Kaposi's sarcoma and mycosis fungoides. Radiation enteritis is a progressive, disease process that causes intestinal fibrosis and obliterative endarteritis, which results in significant morbidity and mortality. The authors' clinical experience involving 20 patients over a 22-year period from 1967 through 1989 who underwent various surgical procedures to alleviate chronic symptoms secondary to radiation enteritis is described. Electron beam therapy applied to a lymph node metastasis from a squamous cell carcinoma was followed by the development of histologically and immunologically typical bullous pemphigoid, the lesions being initially strictly confined to the irradiation area. This observation suggests that the bullous pemphigoid antigen may be altered or unmasked by electron beam radiotherapy, leading subsequently to the production of autoantibodies. The disease in this case effectively responded to the administration of tetracycline and niacinamide, a therapeutic regimen described recently.
