Influence of glass-ionomer cement on the interface and setting reaction of mineral trioxide aggregate when used as a furcal repair material using laser Raman spectroscopic analysis.

The prolonged setting time of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) is the main disadvantage of this material. This study analyzes the influence of glass-ionomer cement on the setting of MTA using laser Raman spectroscopy (LRS). Forty hollow glass molds were taken in which MTA was placed. In Group I specimens, MTA was layered with glass-ionomer cement after 45 minutes. Similar procedures were done for Groups II and III at 4 hours and 3 days, respectively. No glass ionomer was added in Group IV, which were then considered as control samples. Each sample was scanned at various time intervals. At each

Current concepts in vital pulpotomies in primary teeth.

Vital pulpotomies in primary teeth are performed to maintain the vitality of the pulp and to hold the tooth until it can be normally exfoliated. There exists much controversy surrounding the issue of pulpotomy agents, and the ideal pulp dressing material has not yet been identified. Therefore, it seems that formocresol will still be the first choice for pulpotomies in primary teeth until such agent is identified.

A qualitative X-ray analysis of white and grey mineral trioxide aggregate using compositional imaging.

Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) is used in endodontics as a filling and sealant material. An earlier commercial formulation Grey MTA (GMTA) was liable to became progressively discoloured, and a whiter version (WMTA) has been introduced for cosmetic reasons. This study compares the composition and particle size distribution of the two formulations using energy dispersive X-ray analysis in a scanning electron microscope. Particle size is smaller in WMTA. X-ray analysis reveals similar major peaks (calcium, silicon and bismuth) but those of the minor elements aluminium, magnesium and particularl

Therapeutic-ion-doped bioactive glasses for vital pulp therapy: Linking glass chemistry, release dynamics, immunobiology, and clinical translation.

Vital pulp therapy (VPT) requires a material to control residual microbial challenge without sustaining injury in a confined, vascularized pulp, while preserving endogenous pulp cells, supporting angiogenesis, and enabling a continuous reparative dentin barrier and durable coronal seal. This critical narrative review asks under what composition-release-exposure conditions therapeutic ion-doped bioactive glasses (BGs) can provide antimicrobial and immune-regulatory effects while preserving pulp cell viability and supporting vascularized reparative dentin formation, and what minimum evidence is

Efficacy of vital pulp therapy for carious pulp injury in permanent teeth: a study protocol for an open-label randomized controlled noninferiority trial.

BACKGROUND: Vital pulp therapy (VPT) has recently been reported as an effective approach for preventing and treating carious pulp injury in permanent teeth. Compared with root canal treatment (RCT), which involves complete removal of the pulp tissue, VPT effectively maintains pulp vitality and retains the physiological functions of the pulp. In the research pool, large-scale randomized controlled trials evaluating the treatment outcome of VPT using calcium silicate cements and RCT in cariously exposed permanent teeth are lacking. Here, we present a monocentric clinical protocol to compare the …
