Snakes and ladders: A qualitative study understanding the active ingredients of social interaction around the use of audit and feedback.

Explore characteristics of the facilitator, group, and interaction that influence whether a group discussion about data leads to the identification of a clearly specified action plan. Peer-facilitated group discussions among primary care physicians were carried out and recorded. A follow-up focus group was conducted with peer facilitators to explore which aspects of the discussion promoted action planning. Qualitative data was analyzed using an inductive-deductive thematic analysis approach using the conceptual model developed by Cooke et al. Group discussions were coded case-specifically and

Validity of a Revised Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD) Trait Profile and Its Relationship with Social Interaction Anxiety and Coping.

There is evidence suggesting that the conceptualization and operationalization of Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD) is not sa … ng the validity of the revised OCPD trait profile, we investigated, for the first time, the role of social interaction anxiety and maladaptive coping in OCPD. Our revised OCPD profile showed good validity and was characterized by marked social interaction anxiety and dysfunctional coping mechanisms. The findings may lead to a new conceptualization of OCPD which prio …

Impairments in communication and social interaction in children with neurofibromatosis type 1: Characteristics and role of ADHD and language delay.

BACKGROUND: Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is a multisystem neurocutaneous disorder with increased risk of tumor formation and higher incidence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) than the general population. The aim of the study was to assess the presence of ASD symptoms in young children with NF1 and to examine their potential association with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and speech delay. METHODS: The cohort included 30 patients with NF1 attending the multidisciplinary NF1 clinic of a tertiary pediatric medical center from September 2015 through September 2016. The parents

The Effects of Social Anxiety and Online Privacy Concern on Individual Differences in Internet-Based Interaction Anxiety and Communication Preferences.

Social anxiety (SA) and online privacy concerns (OPCs) are conceptually distinct fears, but both may be activated by Internet-based social contexts. Whereas SA is focused on being the object of interpersonal evaluation, OPC is focused on preventing others from gaining unauthorized access to private personal information. No research to date has investigated how SA and OPCs may uniquely or interactively predict individual differences in online interaction anxiety or attitudes and preferences about online communication. Participants (N = 374) completed the Social Phobia Inventory and measures of

Loss of Intercalated Cells (ITCs) in the Mouse Amygdala of Tshz1 Mutants Correlates with Fear, Depression, and Social Interaction Phenotypes.

The intercalated cells (ITCs) of the amygdala have been shown to be critical regulatory components of amygdalar circuits, which control appr … est, indicative of a depression-like phenotype. Moreover, Tshz1 cKOs display significantly impaired social interaction (i.e., increased passivity) regardless of partner genetics. Together, these results suggest that Tshz1 plays a critical role in the development of ITCs and that fear, depression-like and social behavioral deficits arise in their absence.SIGNIFICANCE …

The Social Interaction Phobia Scale: Continued support for the psychometric validity of the SIPS using clinical and non-clinical samples.

The present study sought to extend findings supporting the psychometric validity of a promising measure of social anxiety (SA) symptoms, the Social Interaction Phobia Scale (SIPS; Carleton et al., 2009). Analyses were conducted using three samples: social anxiety disorder (SAD) patients, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) patients, and healthy controls. SIPS scores of SAD patients demonstrated internal consistency and construct validity, and the previously demonstrated three-factor structure of the SIPS was replicated. Further, the SIPS total score uniquely predicted SA symptoms, and SIPS scor…

Mental Health Predictors of Adolescents' Social Media Engagement and Digital Addiction: An Interaction of Person-Affect-Cognition-Execution Model Approach.

Adolescents' pervasive social media use raises growing concerns about its complex links with mental health, yet predictors distinguishing normative engagement from maladaptive digital addiction remain insufficiently understood. Guided by the Interaction of Person-Affect-Cognition-Execution (I-PACE) model, this study examined whether mental health symptoms (anxiety, depression, ADHD, post-traumatic stress symptoms, eating disorder symptoms) and social factors (bullying, help-seeking attitudes, stigma, social support) differentially predicted social media engagement and digital addiction. In a c

Social Interaction in Adolescent Rats with Neonatal Ethanol Exposure: Impact of Sex and CE-123, a Selective Dopamine Reuptake Inhibitor.

Children with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASDs) demonstrate deficits in social functioning that contribute to early withdrawal from school and delinquency, as well as the development of anxiety and depression. Dopamine is involved in reward, motivation, and social behavior. Thus, we evaluated whether neonatal ethanol exposure (in an animal model of FASDs) has an impact on social recognition memory using the three-chamber social novelty discrimination test during early and middle adolescence in male and female rats, and whether the modafinil analog, the novel atypical dopamine reuptake i

IPL-M1 interaction shapes pre-reflective social differentiation in the human action system: new insights from TBS and TMS combined.

The conscious experience of being the author of our own actions is thought to be grounded in pre-reflective and low-level sensorimotor representations of the self as different from the other. It has been suggested that the inferior parietal lobe (IPL) is generally involved in self-other differentiation processes and in providing an explicit sense of action authorship. However, direct evidence for its causal and functional role in distinguishing self-related and other-related sensorimotor representations is lacking. The current study employed theta-burst stimulation (TBS) to condition left IPL'

Oxytocin attenuates deficits in social interaction but not recognition memory in a prenatal valproic acid-induced mouse model of autism.

Recent studies have reported that oxytocin ameliorates behavioral abnormalities in both animal models and individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). However, the mechanisms underlying the ameliorating effects of oxytocin remain unclear. In this study, we examined the effects of intranasal oxytocin on impairments in social interaction and recognition memory in an ASD mouse model in which animals are prenatally exposed to valproic acid (VPA). We found that a single intranasal administration of oxytocin restored social interaction deficits for up to 2h in mice prenatally exposed to VPA, bu…

Tumor necrosis factor-alpha expression in peripheral blood mononuclear cells correlates with early childhood social interaction in autism spectrum disorder.

Autism spectrum disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by impaired social interaction, poor communication skills, and repetitive/restrictive behaviors. Elevated blood levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines have been reported in subjects with autism spectrum disorder. On the other hand, early childhood adverse experience also increases blood levels of these cytokines. Since social experience of children with autism spectrum disorder is generally unlike to typically developing children, we hypothesized that social interaction during childhood contribute to pro-inflammatory cytokin…

Age differences in affective and cardiovascular responses to a negative social interaction: the role of goals, appraisals, and emotion regulation.

Older adults often report less affective reactivity to interpersonal tensions than younger individuals, but few studies have directly investigated mechanisms explaining this effect. The current study examined whether older adults' differential endorsement of goals, appraisals, and emotion regulation strategies (i.e., conflict avoidance/de-escalation, self-distraction) during a controlled negative social interaction may explain age differences in affective and cardiovascular responses to the conflict discussion. Participants (N = 159; 80 younger adults, 79 older adults) discussed hypothetical d…

Cadences of the collective: conspecific stimulation patterns interact with endogenous rhythms to cue socially mediated response shifts.

Many animals form behavioral collectives, and optimal interaction strategies often differ across social contexts. Sensory scenes generated by many interacting conspecifics are complex. Thus, maintaining socially calibrated responses requires individuals to distill key features from conspecific scenes to guide continued adjustments to social fluctuations. Túngara frogs produce mating calls in choruses varying in size, and interaction patterns differ across social environments; rivals alternate their calls in smaller choruses, but increasingly overlap one another's calls in a stereotyped fashion

A bimodal longitudinal investigation on changes in sentiments over social media interactions owing to COVID-19 pandemic.

The shift in human sentiments across cyberspace during a pandemic was unprecedented before COVID-19, as no prior pandemic had occurred alongside an interactive online environment. In response, we conducted a comprehensive bimodal longitudinal analysis of sentiment trends throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, utilizing a dataset from 569 Twitter users over 724 days spanning from 2019 to 2020. Our study involved examining 56,789 Tweets, focusing on sentiment shifts in both textual content and images. We further investigated existing sentiment classifier libraries and their potential integration to d
