BACKGROUND: Large sums of money have been awarded against manufacturers of midurethral slings (MUS) because of complaints of pain and other complications, even though pelvic pain is rarely seen at the 6-12 weeks review.
HYPOTHESIS AND AIMS: Pain/other posterior fornix symptoms (urge, frequency, nocturia, and abnormal emptying) may appear weeks or months after MUS surgery due to dislocation of already weakened uterosacral ligaments (USL), a consequence of diversion of pelvic forces from pubourethral ligaments strengthened by the sling.
METHODS: Review for prevalence, pathogenic pathway from d

BACKGROUND: Patients with pelvic organ prolapse combined with stress urinary incontinence (SUI) require pelvic floor repair and surgical treatment; however, there is currently no systematic evaluation of the treatment effect.
METHODS: PubMed, Medline, Embase, Elsevier, The Cochrane Library, Web of science, and other databases were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published between January 2000 and December 2020 regarding tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) treatment of pelvic organ prolapse combined with SUI. Quality evaluation of the articles included in this study was conducted

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the long-term outcomes of single-incision midurethral slings (SIMS) in real-life practice.
STUDY DESIGN: This retrospective, single-arm, patient cohort study was performed in a large Dutch teaching hospital, including 397 consecutive women who underwent a SIMS-procedure between 2009 and 2018. Data were obtained through questionnaires and patient record study. Subjective improvement was the primary outcome, defined as a Patient Global Impression of Improvement (PGI-I) of '(very) much better'. Secondary outcomes were subjective cure rate (defined as a negative Urogenital

Pelvic floor disorders are a complex set of conditions including but not limited to stress urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse that generally affect older and multiparous women. Of the several surgical options available for treatment of these conditions, synthetic mid-urethral slings for stress urinary incontinence and vaginal mesh for pelvic organ prolapse are amenable to imaging evaluation by ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging techniques. Ultrasound can evaluate the sub- and immediate peri-urethral portions of sling due to its ability to differentiate synthetic material fro

AIMS: The use of Argus-T adjustable sling may be a promising alternative option for the treatment of urinary incontinence after radical prostatectomy, however long-term data is lacking. The aim of this study is to evaluate the long-term results of the Argus-T sling on incontinence rates, patient's quality of life and tape-related complications.
METHODS: Patients were eligible if persistent stress incontinence was present ≥12 months after radical prostatectomy. Measurements included 24 h frequency volume micturition list, 24 h pad test, 24 h pad count and quality of life questionnaires. Argus-

BACKGROUND: Previous case reports on vaginal calculi extraction have described the removal of small calculi facilitated via episiotomy or transabdominal incision. This surgical video demonstrates a novel technique of transvaginal extraction of a large calculus utilizing an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) mallet and osteotomes.
CASE: An 86-year-old female with urgency incontinence and limited mobility presented with obstipation and was found to have an 8.8 cm vaginal calculus. She had a history of prior vaginal mesh exposure after a mid-urethral sling that was managed expectantly without surgical

Urinary incontinence (UI) is one of the most common chronic diseases in women, occurring in all age groups. UI is found in 20-60% of the female population and is considered as a social disease. We use conservative and surgical methods to treat stress urinary incontinence. Conseravtive treatment is the first line therapy. In case of severe symptoms of SUI, in patients with urethral sphincter insufficiency and prolaps conservative treatment is not effective. Currently, the most common are used slings: TVT and TOT as well as Burch operations. Therapeutic success depends on many elements, such as

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Unrecognized bladder perforation of a tension-free sling is a rare situation. Removal of the intravesical sling has been done by laparotomy or transurethrally. With technique presented here we want to show a minimally invasive approach that allows complete removal of the intraluminal sling material, located at the bladder neck.
METHODS: This video shows a novel combined transurethral and suprapubic approach for radical removal of the mesh. Two 3.5-mm trocars were placed suprapubically into a filled bladder. One site was used for an optic with camera and the other

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) surgery has significantly evolved with the introduction of synthetic midurethral slings (MUS). However, following reports from the US Food and Drug Administration and European Commission, the use of vaginal meshes in urogynaecology has been largely scrutinised. We analysed trends in female SUI surgery in England from 2000 to 2017.
METHODS: The Hospital Episode Statistics database was retrieved from the Health and Social Care Information Centre website. Specific four-character codes of the evolving OPCS-4 coding system were used to

Part 3 briefly summarizes further development in midurethral sling (MUS) instruments and technique following the 1990 prototype operations, then critically examines the whole MUS surgical methodology, 1990 to present day. The aim is to identify positive and negative aspects of these methodologies which can be usefully applied to improve current MUS surgery. ANIMAL EXPERIMENTS: 1987-1988 proved that a collagenous neoligament could be formed by implantation of a tape. There was a wide variation in tissue reaction to implanted tapes. Inflamamatory tissue reaction was very different from bacterial

AIMS: To evaluate our outcomes of the adjustable continence balloons ProACT™ for the treatment of male stress urinary incontinence after radical prostatectomy.
METHODS: Between May 2007-August 2016 the ProACT™ was implanted in 143 patients without a history of radiotherapy. Endpoints were patient-reported changes in pad counts and complications. Treatment was considered successful if no pad or just one "security" pad per day sufficed, and improved if daily pad use was reduced by ≥50%.
RESULTS: Incontinence before implantation was mild in 36 (25%), moderate in 57 (40%), and severe in 50 (35%)
