Rhizosphere Microbiota and Soil Nutrients Shape Fruit Lignan Composition of Schisandra chinensis Across Temperate Cultivation Sites in Northeast and Northwest China.

Schisandra chinensis (Turcz.) Baill. (S. chinensis) is a widely used medicinal plant whose therapeutic efficacy is closely linked to its lignan content. While previous studies have focused on soil fertility and cultivar variation, the interplay among soil nutrients, rhizosphere microbiota, and lignan accumulation remains poorly understood. This study investigated S. chinensis grown across 20 cultivation sites to elucidate the relationships among soil nutrient profiles, fruit lignan composition, and rhizosphere microbial communities. Six major lignans were quantified using HPLC, soil nutrients

ERK1/2 Inhibition via the Oral Administration of Tizaterkib Alleviates Noise-Induced Hearing Loss While Tempering down the Immune Response.

Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) is a major cause of hearing impairment and is linked to dementia and mental health conditions, yet no FDA-approved drugs exist to prevent it. Downregulating the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cellular pathway has emerged as a promising approach to attenuate NIHL, but the molecular targets and the mechanism of protection are not fully understood. Here, we tested specifically the role of the kinases ERK1/2 in noise otoprotection using a newly developed, highly specific ERK1/2 inhibitor, tizaterkib, in preclinical animal models. Tizaterkib is currently b

Stability of Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder Symptoms (Irritable-Angry Mood and Temper Outbursts) Throughout Childhood and Adolescence in a General Population Sample.

DSM-5 Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD) is a controversial new diagnosis. The DSM-5 conceptualizes DMDD as persistent and chronic, but the stability of the two DMDD symptoms (irritable-angry mood and temper outbursts) over time is not known. Mothers rated DMDD symptoms in a population-based sample of 376 children (54 % male) evaluated at 6-12 years (M 9) and again an average of 8 years later (M 16). Mean scores on irritable-angry mood plus temper outbursts at baseline and follow-up were below sometimes a problem, but were higher at baseline than follow-up. Irritable-angry mood and

Beta diversity patterns of saproxylic beetle communities in Patagonian temperate forests reflect the influence of wood decay and environmental variability on the foraging preferences of woodpeckers.

Although woodpeckers prefer trees with higher beetle diversity, the composition of beetle assemblages in the trees utilized for foraging remains largely unknown. Environmental conditions and wood decay may influence the beta diversity of saproxylic beetles, potentially affecting the woodpecker's capacity to distinguish suitable foraging substrates. We assessed the patterns of beta diversity of saproxylic beetles in live trees used and not used by Magellanic woodpeckers for foraging in Patagonian temperate forests. The additive and interactive effects of wood decay and environmental conditions

Influence of root morphology and mycorrhizal type on root exudation rates among 10 co-existing broadleaved tree species in a cool-temperate forest.

Identification of the factors explaining variations in tree root exudates is crucial for understanding belowground carbon dynamics. The relative importance of plant functional types and root morphological and physiological traits in explaining differences of root exudation remains unclear. To elucidate the key factors influencing root exudation, we examined root exudation rates, morphological traits (specific root length, specific root area, tissue density, and diameter), and respiration rates across 10 co-existing tree species in the absence of significant environmental gradients. The selecte

Comparative clinical evaluation of direct-indirect heat tempered and direct composite restoration technique in noncarious cervical lesions: A split-mouth randomized clinical.

INTRODUCTION: Noncarious cervical lesions (NCCLs) are increasingly prevalent and present a restorative challenge due to their multifactorial etiology and complex cervical substrate. Composite resins are commonly used; however, limitations such as polymerization shrinkage and reduced retention affect their clinical performance. The direct-indirect heat-tempered composite technique has been proposed to enhance mechanical properties and clinical outcomes. AIM: The aim of this study was to comparatively evaluate the clinical performance of direct-indirect heat-tempered composite restorations and

Unearthing Forest History: Integrating Soil Charcoal Macrofossils and Pollen Reveals Delayed Forest Responses to Holocene Climatic Transitions in Boreal-Temperate Ecotone.

Studying historical dynamics and compositional changes of ecotones is essential for improving predictions of their responses to anthropogenic global change. However, the small size and geographic isolation of marginal ecotonal stands require retrospective analyses at the local scale. Here, we combine soil macrofossil charcoal analysis (SMCA), a lake-sediment pollen record, and contemporary forest inventories to reconstruct past dynamics and assess contemporary trajectories of forest stands located at the northern boundary of the boreal-temperate ecotone (BTE) in the Rimouski hinterland (Lower

Toll-Like Receptor 1/2 Postconditioning by the Ligand Pam3cys Tempers Posttraumatic Hyperexcitability, Neuroinflammation, and Microglial Response: A Potential Candidate for Posttraumatic Epilepsy.

Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are activated by endogenous molecules released from damaged cells and contribute to neuroinflammation following traumatic brain injury (TBI) and epilepsy. TLR1/2 agonist tri-palmitoyl-S-glyceryl-cysteine (Pam3cys) is a vaccine adjuvant with confirmed safety in humans. We assessed impact of TLR1/2 postconditioning by Pam3cys on epileptogenesis and neuroinflammation in male rats, 6, 24, and 48 h after mild-to-moderate TBI. Pam3cys was injected into cerebral ventricles 30 min after controlled cortical impact (CCI) injury. After 24 h, rats underwent chemical kindling by

Genetic variability of the honey bee mite, Varroa destructor, from a humid continental climatic region of Canada, and temperate and tropical climatic regions of Mexico.

Varroa destructor is a damaging mite of Western honey bees (Apis mellifera). Genetic variability of the mite in different regions of the world could be related to the movement of infested bees or other factors, such as climate. In this study, V. destructor samples were collected from tropical and temperate climate regions of Mexico, and a humid continental climate region of Canada. COX-1 AFLPs showed that all the mites were the Korean haplotype. Four microsatellites revealed nine haplogroups from the continental climate region of Canada, compared to three haplogroups from the tropical and temp

An improved model for the population dynamics of cattle gastrointestinal nematodes on pasture: parameterisation and field validation for Ostertagia ostertagi and Cooperia oncophora in northern temperate zones.

Gastrointestinal nematodes (GIN) are amongst the most important pathogens of grazing ruminants worldwide, resulting in negative impacts on cattle health and production. The dynamics of infection are driven in large part by the influence of climate and weather on free-living stages on pasture, and computer models have been developed to predict infective larval abundance and guide management strategies. Significant uncertainties around key model parameters limits effective application of these models to GIN in cattle, however, and these parameters are difficult to estimate in natural populations

Climate change, water quality, and water diversion are associated with the shifts of aquatic vegetation structure and phenology in five temperate regulating lakes of eastern China.

Aquatic plants are vital for lake ecosystem functioning and water-quality stability, yet their community dynamics and phenology rhythms remain insufficiently understood, due to the lack of effective strategies for fine-scale species mapping and phenology extraction. In this study, based on Sentinel-2 MSI imagery, we developed an integrated framework combining machine learning and a priori ecological knowledge to quantify the spatiotemporal changes in aquatic plant distribution, species composition and phenological dynamics for eight dominant species in five regulating lakes along the Eastern R

Pre- and mid-cooling with ice slurry ingestion: Effects on recovery over 48 h following high-intensity intermittent exercise under temperate conditions.

High-intensity intermittent exercise (HIIE) can elicit substantial thermal and physiological strain even in temperate environments. We examined whether pre-mid cooling using ice slurry ingestion would attenuate thermal strain and enhance physiological and performance recovery over 48h following HIIE under temperate conditions. Seventeen male team-sport athletes completed two HIIEs (four 22.5-min treadmill running quarters (Q1-4) at 4-20 km h-1 interspersed with overground sprints) in a randomized crossover design. Temperate (TEMP; 28°C) or ice slurry (ICE; -1°C) beverages were ingested pre- an

Landscape Variables Associated with Toxoplasma gondii Exposure in American Mink (Neogale vison) and Domestic Cats (Felis catus) in the Valdivian Temperate Rainforest, Chile.

Toxoplasma gondii, a globally distributed protozoan, poses risks to wildlife and public health, with domestic cats playing a significant role in its dissemination. The Valdivian temperate rainforest in southern Chile, known for its biodiversity and endemism, faces threats from human activities and from invasive species such as domestic cats. We evaluated T. gondii seroprevalence in two sympatric introduced carnivores, an intermediate host, the American mink (Neogale vison), and a definitive host, the domestic cat (Felis catus), and we determined landscape variables linked to exposure for both
