5-Coordinate tin compounds influence mitochondrial function in the same three ways as triorganotin compounds: (1) they inhibit the energy conservation system like oligomycin, (2) they cause a Cl-/OH- exchange across mitochondrial membranes and (3) at high concentrations they cause large scale swelling. Unlike other triorganotin compounds they inhibit (1) at much lower concentrations than (2) and are as effective as oligomycin. Thhe implications of these findings for the mechanism of reaction of organotins with proteins, enzymes and mitochondria are discussed.

Isolated, gigantic tin clusters of 56 atoms are discovered in the ternary compound Ba(16)Na(204)Sn(310) (cubic, F(-)43m, Z = 1, a = 25.2041(8) A) made by direct fusion of the elements at 800 degrees C. The cluster, made of four face-fused pentagonal dodecahedra, has 36 pentagonal faces and 90 edges, and resembles a concave fullerene "dented" at four places. The electrochemical characteristics of 2-mono(2,6-diisopropylphenylimino)acenaphthene-1-one (dpp-mian) have been investigated. One-electron reduction of dpp-mian involves the iminoketone fragment, which is revealed by the EPR spectrum obtained after the electrolysis of the dpp-mian solution in tetrahydrofuran (THF). Copper films were deposited on oxidized Si substrates covered with TiN using a novel chemical vapor deposition reactor in which reactions were assisted by a heated tungsten filament (hot-wire CVD, HWCVD). In previous studies we investigated the metabolism of tin compounds in rats and hamsters following single oral treatments with triphenyltin. The objective of this study was to provide information on the metabolism of triphenyltin in hamsters subchronically treated with dietary triphenyltin for 180 d. Groups were fed diets containing 3 different triphenyltin concentrations: 1.28, 28.82 or 54.77 ppm. The 28.82 and 54.77 ppm groups gained less body weight than the control and 1.28 ppm groups. Concentration of butyltin compounds (BTs), including tributyltin (TBT), dibutyltin (DBT) and monobutyltin (MBT) and total tin (SigmaSn) were determined in green mussel (Perna viridis), 10 species of muscle fish and sediment from coastal waters of Malaysia. In this study, the effects of Cl2 radicals on dry development of spin-coated metal oxide resist (MOR) and changes in its surface binding states were investigated to verify the mechanism of dry development. Multinary transition metal nitrides and oxonitrides are a versatile and intriguing class of compounds. However, they have been investigated far less than pure oxides. Four new compounds Cs17.4(1)Na60.6(1)Sn138 (1), Rb19.1(1)Na58.9(1)Sn138 (2), K21.3(1)Na56.7(1)Sn138 (3), and Rb20Na12Sn100 (4) were synthesized by fusion of the corresponding elements. We report the formation of new cyclic porphyrin tetrads 1 and 2, which were obtained from the reaction between dihydroxytin(IV) porphyrin and cis-dihydroxy-21-thiaporphyrin/21,23-dithiaporphyrin.
