The objectives of this anatomical study were to (1) determine if significant bone growth occurs in the base of the alveolar bony crypt of the first mandibular molar to move the tooth through the eruption pathway; (2) determine if the osteogenesis in the crypt correlates with the published chronological gene expression of bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) in the dental follicle; and (3) determine chronologically and regionally the crypt bone activity. To accomplish this, the alveolar bony crypts of rat mandibular molars from postnatal days 3 to 18 were processed and examined by scanning elec

UNLABELLED: Autotransplantation of immature teeth has good survival rates, and has benefits over ossointegrated implants in the growing child, but is very technique sensitive. Spiral CT imaging has been previously used in adult patients to enable computer-aided prototyping to produce a surgical template of the donor tooth, further increasing success rates.
CASE REPORT: The case presented describes management of a 9-year-old girl with the combination of hypodontia affecting the upper lateral incisors as well as a severely ectopic maxillary canine. Cone beam CT was used in combination with comp

The amount of secondary dentin in a tooth has been used as one of several parameters in methods for age estimation. Dentin deposition has been measured according to various scoring systems, and the Pearson correlation coefficient with age has been found to be approximately 0.6. In the present study of 1000 teeth, molars excluded, secondary dentin was estimated according to three scoring systems. The teeth were prepared according to the half tooth technique. In addition, the area of the coronal pulp and the widths of the root and pulp chamber were measured in a stereomicroscope at the cemento-e

PURPOSE: The composition and properties of resin-based composite materials could affect tooth wear and lead to clinical problems. Therefore, the study objective was to characterize human tooth wear behavior against a bulk-fill restorative (BF) compared to a conventional resin composite (RC) and a CAD/CAM resin nano ceramic (RN).
METHODS: Square-shaped specimens of each material were prepared and sub-divided according to the number of testing cycles (n=8): 100,000, 250,000, and 500,000 cycles. An occlusal wear test was performed using a chewing machine with 49 N, 2 Hz, in 37°C distilled water.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Tooth movement during orthodontic treatment is associated with bone neoplasticity and bone resorption on the tension and pressure sides. Previous clinical studies have suggested that low-power laser irradiation can accelerate tooth movement during orthodontic treatment, although the underlying mechanism remains unclear. In this study, we used a high-frequency near-infrared diode laser that generates less heat and examined the histologic changes in periodontal tissue during experimental tooth movement with laser irradiation.
METHODS: A nickel-titanium closed coil was

The restoration of primary incisors with extensive caries lesions is a clinical challenge of severe dimensions. Not only are these teeth difficult to restore, but the patient's behavior can affect the treatment negatively. Requirements for an acceptable restoration include natural color; durability; adhesive cementation that is biocompatible with the pulp; easily and rapidly placed; requires only one treatment visit. Compared to other options, stainless steel crowns are the easiest to place. The most attractive restoration for these cases today is the adhesively bonded resin-composite crown, m

INTRODUCTION: The traditional endodontic cavity (TEC) facilitates canal preparation, but may increase susceptibility to root fracture; conservative endodontic cavities (CEC) aim to preserve tooth structure to maintain the structural integrity of root-filled teeth. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of access cavity design and the degree of pulp chamber root removal on the microstrain distribution patterns under different levels of functional loading using digital moiré interferometry.
METHODS: Twelve extracted human teeth (n = 12) were included, comprising of mandibular pr

This paper introduces a novel application of the laser speckle technique in dentistry, focusing on assessing the efficiency of dental excavation methods used to remove decayed tooth structure. The aim is to evaluate the efficiency of two chemo-mechanical agents and the high-speed drill using the laser speckle technique, which offers objective, non-invasive, and real-time evaluation capabilities. Extracted human primary molars with active occlusal carious lesions were sectioned into three parts, with each part allocated to one of three groups: Group 1 (Brix3000®), Group 2 (Papacarie DUO®), and

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of root canal enlargement on the danger zone (DZ) of mandibular molars.
METHODS: Thirty mesial roots of mandibular first molars were scanned in micro-computed tomography (S1). Canals were sequentially enlarged with rotary instruments up to sizes 30/0.04 (S2) and 30/0.06 (S3). The dentin thickness was measured at 0.1-mm intervals after each preparation step (n = 2964 slices). Root level and position of the DZ were also recorded. Data were compared using analysis of variance with Bonferroni pairwise comparison, Cochran's Q method, and Pears

Sea urchin teeth grow continuously and develop a complex mineralized structure consisting of spatially separate but crystallographically aligned first stage calcitic elements of high Mg content (5-15 mol% mineral). These become cemented together by epitaxially oriented second stage very high Mg calcite (30-40 mol% mineral). In the tooth plumula, ingressing preodontoblasts create layered cellular syncytia. Mineral deposits develop within membrane-bound compartments between cellular syncytial layers. We seek to understand how this complex tooth architecture is developed, how individual crystalli

The management of dental caries has evolved from the traditional mechanical approach of "extension for prevention" to a biologically oriented philosophy centered on preserving natural tooth structures. Minimally invasive dentistry (MID) emphasizes early detection, risk assessment, prevention, and conservative intervention based on the lesion's activity and depth. This review outlines current evidence on non-operative, micro-invasive, and minimally invasive strategies, including fluoride therapy, remineralizing agents such as casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP), self-ass
