OBJECTIVE: Population-level biomarker data among recent exclusive cigar users remain limited. We examined nicotine exposure (urinary TNE-2) and heavy metal biomarkers among recent exclusive cigar users, cigarette users and never tobacco users using PATH Wave 7 (2022-2023) data.

The substitution of lead nitrate for uranium nitrate as used in the Steiner silver impregnation method for demonstrating spirochetes in tissue sections is described. The use of lead nitrate provides a chemical substitute free of any potential radiation hazard without loss of staining specificity. Two uranium(IV) sulfate framework compounds were crystallized at room temperature from aqueous solutions containing uranyl ions by photochemical reduction in the presence of 2-propanol. U3H2(SO4)7(H2O)5·3H2O (1) crystallizes in space group P65 with a = 9.3052(17) Å, c = 53.515(10) Å, V = 4012.9(13) Å3, and Z = 6, and U3(UO2)0.2(SO4)6(OH)0.4·2.3H2O (2) is tetragonal, with space group P42/nmc, a = 25.624(3) Å, c = 8.9435(10) Å, V = 5872.2(11) Å3, and Z = 8. The structures of 1 and 2 are the most complex among uranium(IV) sulfates.

Ethane 1 hydroxy 1.1. biphosphonate (EHBP) is a medicine named Didronel, which inhibits bone resorption in the case of Paget's disease. This molecule could offer a new application in radiotoxicology. Our works describe its efficiency as decontaminating agent in uranium and plutonium cutaneous radiocontamination. Its effect on uranium and plutonium is demonstrated by two in vitro techniques using human cutaneous explants. Both techniques are usually used in dermopharmacology to estimate the action of topic drugs.

The present work reports the systematic studies on extraction, separation and preconcentration of Th(IV), U(VI), Zr(IV), Ce(IV) and Cr(III) amid several other foreign ions using EBT anchored {SiO2}n3-D microarray.
