The disease process of uveitis due to Toxocara canis infection has a much more severe course in children than in adults. It can be cured by special drugs (Mintezol) and corticosteroids, which at the same time also reduce the inflammatory symptoms. In patients with endophthalmitis, vitrectomy may be indicated. The improvement in visual acuity depends both on the localization of the degenerations and on the duration of the disease. The authors consider sonographic examination indispensable for differential diagnosis.

In adult albino rabbits, an opening wound was made in the central area of the cornea in one eye and the anterior chamber was made flat for 48 hours. Fluorescein-labeled dextran with a molecular weight of 70,000 was injected intravenously, and the uveal tissues were examined by fluorescence microscopy. The frequency and the causes of extrusion of orbital implants have been investigated. Of the 294 patients in which enucleation was done, in 17 cases (5.8%) extrusion of the first implant developed; in 9 cases with second or third implantations another 5 implants have been extruded. The extrusion of implants is caused mainly by the operative technique and only rarely by intolerance reactions. For a reliable healing exact sutures of the muscles and also exact closure of the implant with plenty of covering tissue is important.

A study of the effects of hypotony, cryotherapy as the adhesive modality and vortex system obstruction in repair of experimental retinal detachment in the owl monkey is reported. The presence of serous uveal edema (detachment) correlated mainly with the degree of cortex obstruction. Hemorrhagic extravasation appeared to be a more exaggerated manifestation of such vascular stasis.

PURPOSE: To report patterns of uveitis in patients with systemic tuberculosis.
METHODS: Records of patients presenting at uvea clinic of a tertiary eye care centre were evaluated retrospectively, and 47 cases with proven systemic tuberculosis were analyzed for patterns of uveitis. Tuberculosis had been proven with a combination of radio imaging and detection of acid fast bacilli in body fluids. All patients had been reviewed by a specialist as applicable before diagnosing tuberculosis. These patients had undergone a thorough ocular workup. Pattern of uveitis was the primary outcome measure.

BACKGROUND: Injection of lipopolysaccharides/LPS/, the major component of the outer membrane of gram-negative bacteria, can induce inflammation in the eyes of susceptible animals.
