Impact of social media use on influenza vaccine hesitancy among pediatric healthcare workers: The mediating role of 3Cs.

Evidence on the association between social media use and vaccine hesitancy has been inconsistent, and research on the mechanisms underlying this relationship remains limited. This study aimed to examine whether confidence, complacency, and convenience (3Cs) mediate the association between social media use and influenza vaccine hesitancy. An online questionnaire survey was conducted among 464 pediatric healthcare workers in a tertiary hospital in December 2024. The questionnaire assessed social media use (including trust and exposure), vaccine hesitancy, and the 3Cs. Reliability and validity we

Health system stakeholders' perceptions of religious and socio-cultural influences on measles vaccine hesitancy in Madagascar: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: In Madagascar, measles remains a leading cause of infant mortality, and recurrent epidemics highlight the urgent need to strengthen vaccination strategies. Despite regular mass immunisation efforts, such as the national campaign in October 2024, the effectiveness of these programmes is often undermined by complex non-medical factors. This study aims to qualitatively explore the specific religious and socio-cultural beliefs and perceptions that act as barriers to the acceptance of the measles vaccine across the country. METHODS: This qualitative exploratory study was integrated int

Changes in childhood vaccine hesitancy during the COVID-19 pandemic: a retrospective study based on data from Turkey.

BACKGROUND: Vaccine refusal is a growing public health concern, threatening herd immunity and the control of vaccine-preventable diseases. The COVID-19 pandemic has influenced healthcare delivery and vaccine refusal behavior as a proxy for vaccine hesitancy. This study aimed to assess changes in childhood vaccine refusal behavior during the pandemic in Turkey. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective observational study including 2,786 children born between 2017 and 2022 who reached 24 months of age and had complete vaccination records from primary healthcare. Children were categorized as pre-pan

Beyond Hesitancy: Current Multi-Level Polio Vaccine Refusals and Pathways to Acceptance in a High-Risk Region of Pakistan.

BACKGROUND: Pakistan is one of only two countries where wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) continues to persist. Vaccine refusals challenge efforts to end the virus, especially in high-risk communities. METHODS: A qualitative exploratory study took place from September to November 2025 in three High-Risk Union Councils (HRUCs) of Karachi, Pakistan. The study examined reasons for refusing the polio vaccine and identified specific communication and operational strategies to improve vaccine acceptance. A total of 23 in-depth interviews and 10 focus group discussions were conducted with 71 participant

Changes in HPV vaccine hesitancy and influencing factors among female university students in China: A national repeated study.

HPV vaccine hesitancy remains a critical barrier to cervical cancer prevention in China despite a series of strategic policy initiatives. Our study conducted two large-scale online cross-sectional surveys in 2022 and 2025 among nationally representative samples of female university students, applying propensity score matching to enhance comparability. HPV vaccine hesitancy, assessed on a 0-10 scale (including graded hesitancy and refusal), increased significantly over time, with prevalence rising from 8.8% to 21.6%, and mean hesitancy scores also increasing. Although HPV knowledge improved and

COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among European older adults: the role of living alone, social isolation and loneliness.

OBJECTIVE: Given the significant public health challenge posed by vaccine hesitancy during the COVID-19 pandemic, researchers have increasingly focused on understanding its underlying determinants. While previous research has paid attention to predisposing, enabling, and need factors the role of psychosocial factors remains less understood. This study examines COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among older adults in Europe, specifically in relation to living alone, social isolation, and loneliness as distinct factors. Additionally, it considers potential cross-country variations in these effects, in r

Healthcare Professionals' Emotions of Distance and Connection When Dealing With Patients' Vaccine Hesitancy: Interaction Styles, Values, and Implications.

Healthcare professionals (HCPs) play a primary role in the delivery of population-based vaccination programs. Their emotional well-being can influence the quality of their relationships with patients and generally the outcome of their consultations. This qualitative study sought to identify the types of emotions that HCPs feel during conversations with vaccine-hesitant patients and their styles of interaction. Semi-structured interviews were conducted between June and November 2022 with 41 HCPs (mainly general practitioners and nurses) responsible for vaccinating patients: 23 in England and 18

Can delay discounting predict vaccine hesitancy 4-years later? A study among US young adults.

Despite being a major threat to health, vaccine hesitancy (i.e., refusal or reluctance to vaccinate despite vaccine availability) is on the rise. Using a longitudinal cohort of young adults (N = 1260) from Los Angeles County, California we investigated the neurobehavioral mechanisms underlying COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy. Data were collected at two time points: during adolescence (12th grade; fall 2016; average age = 16.96 (±0.42)) and during young adulthood (spring 2021; average age = 21.33 (±0.49)). Main outcomes and measures were delay discounting (DD; fall 2016) and tendency to act rashly w

Addressing vaccination coverage among pediatric solid organ transplant candidates and recipients in the post-coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic period of increased vaccine hesitancy.

Pediatric solid organ transplant candidates and recipients remain undervaccinated and at higher risk of vaccine preventable illness (VPI) than the general population. An American Society of Transplantation Pediatric Community of Practice Controversies Conference was held in October 2023 to discuss opportunities to improve vaccine uptake and decrease rates of VPI in this population. Undervaccination results from failures at different levels. Clinician misconceptions about when vaccines may be contraindicated often lead to delays, and vaccines recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunizatio
