We described two cases with idiopathic bronchoesophageal fistula presented recurrent postprandial coughing. Abnormal tracts connecting the oesophagus and bronchus were identified by videofluoroscopy. Thoracoscopic surgery was successfully performed, which involved the resection of the fistula and the interposition of a pedicle of viable parietal pleura between oesophageal and bronchial closures. Neither patient experienced symptoms of any subsequent complications.

There were 74 cases (29.5%) with adhesive and fissureless complications in comparison with all 251 cases who had undergone video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) lung operations in author's hospital. On lobectomy and segmentectomy adhesive and fissureless effective factors were old age( p=0.012), the difference between %DLco to %DLco/VA( p<0.05), Brinkman index( p=0.043) compared with non-ad- hesive cases, therefore operation times of fissureless group prolonged (p=0.009). Mediastinal involvement of hydatidosis is rare even in endemic areas. Isolated mediastinal without lung or liver involvement is even less commonly reported. We present the case of a young gentleman who was diagnosed with primary mediastinal hydatidosis based on clinical, radiological and pathological criteria. He underwent successful resection of the lesion by VATS (Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery) preceded by two weeks of medical treatment with albendazole and had an excellent outcome. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case in the state of Qatar.

This article describes our experience with 5 patients with post-thoracotomy pain syndrome after video-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomies, treated with weekly erector spinae plane block. We injected corticosteroid and local anesthetic. At the end of the treatment period, pain scores decreased significantly. Our experience suggests that erector spinae plane block may have a role in the treatment of post-thoracoscopy pain syndrome.

OBJECTIVES: Hiliar (pN1) and mediastinal lymph (pN2) nodal upstaging after surgery for early stage (<IIB) non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a quality marker of surgical lymphadenectomy. It has been suggested that Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) may result in suboptimal lymphadenctomy because nodal upstaging was lower than after open thoracothomy (THO). We sought to: (1) compare the prevalence of nodal upstaging after VATS and THO in NSCLC < IIB; (2) investigate potential risk factors of nodal upstaging; and, (3) assess the impact of nodal upstaging on survival.
METHODS: Retros

BACKGROUND: Patients undergoing surgery for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are often elderly and have co-morbidity conditions and decreased performance status. Compared with open thoracotomy, video-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomy is associated with fewer postoperative complications. Despite encouraging results for patients with NSCLC who underwent VATS, the procedure is still not widely accepted, and large retrospective studies have yielded conflicting results.
OBJECTIVES: In video-assisted lobectomy for NSCLC, it has remained controversial whether mediastinal lymphadenectomy can be perf

BACKGROUND: Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) has been widely applied to various types of pulmonary and mediastinal resections in recent years. However, there are still limited experiences of simultaneous thoracoscopic resection for lung cancer and mediastinal tumor. The aim of the study is to investigate the technical safety and feasibility of uniportal VATS for simultaneous resection for concurrent diseases of lung and anterior mediastinum and to compare with multiportal VATS.
METHODS: From June 2014 to December 2017, all patients who underwent simultaneously thoracoscopic resecti

OBJECTIVES: Although there is growing interest in single-port video-assisted thoracic surgery for a number of thoracic operations, there is still not enough known about its use for mediastinal pathologies. The present study was aimed at assessing the safety and efficacy of single-port video-assisted thoracic surgery in comparison with the multi-port variants in terms of short-term perioperative outcomes.
METHODS: From July 2013 to December 2015, 285 consecutive non-myasthenic adult patients undergoing single- or multi-port video-assisted thoracic surgery for mediastinal diseases including thy

BACKGROUND: Hydatid cyst is an endemic infectious disease. Various modalities have been provided to approach hydatosis. This article reports a 20-years-experience of a new minimally invasive technique for the management of solitary pulmonary hydatid cysts using video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) with mini-thoracotomy.
METHODS: We reviewed the medical records of patients who underwent unilateral or bilateral single pulmonary hydatid cyst excision using VATS with mini-thoracotomy. All patients were managed by the same surgeon over the period from January 1996 till January 2015.

INTRODUCTION: Thymectomy is the preferred standard treatment in younger non-thymoma patients with myasthenia gravis as well as in patients with early stage thymoma. Total thymectomy by median sternotomy has been the surgical approach since resection of the thymus with video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS).
AIM: To compare the clinical outcomes of VATS thymectomy with conventional open thymectomy for neoplastic and non-neoplastic thymic diseases.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Forty patients underwent thymectomy between October 2012 and January 2016. Fifteen patients were male and 25 patients we

Interest in minimally invasive video-assisted mitral valve surgery (MIMVS) is rapidly growing. Data on concomitant atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation to MIMVS are still lacking. The present study investigates the long-term results of AF cryoablation concomitant to MIMVS. From October 2006-September 2014, 68 patients with mitral valve disease (age 65.9 ± 11.1 years, 34 men out of 68 patients, Euroscore log 5.4 ± 4.5) and drug-resistant AF underwent MIMVS via right minithoracotomy and concomitant left-sided AF endocardial cryoablation (Cryoflex Medtronic, Minneapolis, MN). OBJECTIVES: First-line conservative treatment of primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP) may be challenged by recurrence rates and complications associated with different treatment options. The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of a standardized surgical treatment as 'first-line' treatment.
METHODS: In a 10-year period, 185 patients with PSP were treated with a standardized video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) approach including wedge resection and parietal pleurectomy. Data were evaluated retrospectively. All patients with a first event of PSP were included in the study. In addition

Background The aim of this study is to evaluate cases with locoregional recurrence after video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) for primary lung cancer. Methods We reviewed 248 patients with primary lung cancer who underwent lobectomy or segmentectomy with mediastinal lymph node dissection by VATS between January 2005 and December 2011. Locoregional recurrence is defined as per its occurrence in (1) bronchial stump or lung parenchymal cut end, (2) ipsilateral pleura, and (3) ipsilateral hilar and mediastinal lymph nodes, and we analyzed recurrence rate and significant associated factors f
