Prolonged or intense stress can contribute to the progression of various pathological conditions, including cancer. To explore how stress affects glioblastoma invasiveness, U87-MG cells with reduced proliferation were treated for four days with epinephrine or hydrocortisone (low/high doses) in 2D and 3D cultures. The tumour also expressed a non-neoplastic component of osteoclast-like giant cells which probably represent a stromal reaction of the host to the neoplasia.
