OBJECTIVE: To assess the gaze of physicians in the Neonatal ICU setting when evaluating a multiparameter monitor to determine the presence/absence of vital sign alterations.
METHODS: Pediatricians' gaze was tracked when they evaluated a 30-second video of a multiparametric monitor on a screen. They assessed one of three scenarios: Normal, Tachycardia, or Hyperoxia. Hanging is known not only as a common method of suicide but also as a capital punishment method in some countries. Iatrogenic anetoderma of prematurity (IAOP) represents a benign iatrogenic dermatosis characterized by focal, well-demarcated areas of atrophic skin in preterm infants. We present the cases of 5 infants diagnosed with IAOP during a 3-year period in a tertiary-care university hospital. Skin atrophy patches were absent at birth in all presented infants, and there was no family history of anetoderma. Carotid bodies (CBs) are chemoreceptors that monitor and register changes in the blood, including the levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and pH, and regulate breathing.
