Blood circulation of free gingival grafts by Xe-133 clearance was evaluated in this study with special attention to the relationship between the amount of circulation and graft thickness, surface area and contraction during the initial healing phase. PURPOSE: Oral piercings have a long history as part of religious, cultural, or sexual symbolism in many traditional tribes; currently, these ornaments have wide acceptance among young people. Several oral and systemic complications may be associated with this practice; however, limited data related to these complications can be obtained in the literature.

The objective of this case report is to review the clinical thinking, decision making, and actions of the authors, from the time of the first patient visit to the final esthetic outcome. Initial uncertainty led the authors to perform procedures that were believed to provide best outcomes or alternatives for further procedures, if necessary. An optimal final esthetic outcome was the goal, and the short-term (one-year) esthetic results are presented.

AIM: To evaluate the healing outcome of soft tissue dehiscence coverage at implant sites.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Ten patients with one mucosal recession defect at an implant site and a contralateral unrestored clinical crown without recession were recruited. The soft tissue recessions were surgically covered using a coronally advanced flap in combination with a free connective tissue graft. Healing was studied at 1, 3 and 6 months post-operatively.

The demands of current periodontal practice require that clinicians use varied approaches to resolve poor esthetic appearances. In particular, patients are becoming less and less accepting of exposed roots and lost interdental papillae, especially in the maxillary anterior sextant. This report describes a surgical technique that combines the advantages of a root-coverage procedure using subepithelial connective tissue grafts and an incision design that preserves interdental papillae, coupled with the use of enamel matrix derivative (Emdogain) to maximize the regenerative potential.

The successful use and placement of subgingival resin-ionomer restorations in both anterior root and molar furcation defects are demonstrated in this article. Sustained tissue health and minimal probing depths at the surgical site demonstrate clinical success. These case reports illustrate the continued success of alternative treatment procedures for restoring subgingival mechanical root or periodontal lesions.
