Deep Learning for Automated Detection and Segmentation of Meningioma on Multiparametric MRI.

Meningioma is the most common benign primary intracranial tumor. Although its typical appearance on contrast-enhanced T1-weighted images is characteristic, tumor conspicuity and boundary definition vary substantially across MRI sequences, which complicates automated detection and delineation. Automatic meningioma detection and segmentation provide the volumetric delineation on which tumor volume estimation, radiotherapy target definition, and radiomic analyses depend and may reduce the time and inter-observer variability associated with manual delineation. We investigated deep learning models

Machine learning-based treatment outcome prediction in head and neck cancer using integrated noninvasive diagnostics.

PURPOSE: Accurate prediction of treatment outcomes is crucial for personalized treatment in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Beyond one-year survival, assessing long-term enteral nutrition dependence is essential for optimizing patient counseling and resource allocation. This preliminary study aimed to predict one-year survival and feeding tube dependence in surgically treated HNSCC patients using classical machine learning. METHODS: This proof-of-principle retrospective study included 558 surgically treated HNSCC patients. Baseline clinical data, routine blood markers, and MRI-

Imaging-based transformer model predicts early therapy response in advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma: a dual-center study.

INTRODUCTION: Deep-learning methodologies for predicting early response in locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LA-NPC) remain unvalidated, with techniques like 2.5-D imaging and Transformers underexplored. MATERIALS AND METHODS: MRI images from LA-NPC patients diagnosed between January 2020 and March 2024 at two centers were analyzed. Patients (n = 184) were split into training (n = 89), validation (n = 39), and test (n = 56) sets. Three segmentation models-SegResNet, Unet, and UnetR-automatically delineated regions of interest (ROIs). A 2.5D approach integrated adjacent tumor sections

DeepSAP: A Novel Brain Image-Based Deep Learning Model for Predicting Stroke-Associated Pneumonia From Spontaneous Intracerebral Hemorrhage.

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVE: Stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP) often appears as a complication following intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), leading … SAP. In comparison, the model relying solely on clinical data showed an AUC of only 0.76, while the radiomics method had an AUC of 0.74. Additionally, DeepSAP achieved an optimal AUC of 0.84 for the SAP grading task. CONCLUSION: DeepSAP's accuracy in predicting SAP stems from its spatial normalization and statistical quantification of the ICH region. DeepS …

Role of Artificial intelligence model in prediction of low back pain using T2 weighted MRI of Lumbar spine.

BACKGROUND: Low back pain (LBP), the primary cause of disability, is the most common musculoskeletal disorder globally and the primary cause of disability. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies are inconclusive and less sensitive for identifying and classifying patients with LBP. Hence, this study aimed to investigate the role of artificial intelligence (AI) models in the prediction of LBP using T2 weighted MRI image of the lumbar spine. METHODS: This was a prospective case-control study. A total of 200 MRI patients (100 cases and controls each) referred for lumbar spine and whole spine sc

Pathological changes or technical artefacts? The problem of the heterogenous databases in COVID-19 CXR image analysis.

BACKGROUND: When the COVID-19 pandemic commenced in 2020, scientists assisted medical specialists with diagnostic algorithm development. One scientific research area related to COVID-19 diagnosis was medical imaging and its potential to support molecular tests. Unfortunately, several systems reported high accuracy in development but did not fare well in clinical application. The reason was poor generalization, a long-standing issue in AI development. Researchers found many causes of this issue and decided to refer to them as confounders, meaning a set of artefacts and methodological errors ass

A survival prediction model via interpretable machine learning for patients with oropharyngeal cancer following radiotherapy.

PURPOSE: To explore interpretable machine learning (ML) methods, with the hope of adding more prognosis value, for predicting survival for patients with Oropharyngeal-Cancer (OPC). METHODS: A cohort of 427 OPC patients (Training 341, Test 86) from TCIA database was analyzed. Radiomic features of gross-tumor-volume (GTV) extracted from planning CT using Pyradiomics, and HPV p16 status, etc. patient characteristics were considered as potential predictors. Muscle magnetic resonance characterization of STIM1 tubular aggregate myopathy using unsupervised learning.

PURPOSE: Congenital myopathies are a heterogeneous group of diseases affecting the skeletal muscles and characterized by high clinical, genetic, and histological variability. Magnetic Resonance (MR) is a valuable tool for the assessment of involved muscles (i.e., fatty replacement and oedema) and disease progression. Machine Learning is becoming increasingly applied for diagnostic purposes, but to our knowledge, Self-Organizing Maps (SOMs) have never been used for the identification of the patterns in these diseases. The aim of this study is to evaluate if SOMs may discriminate between muscles

A CT imaging-based deep learning model for predicting EGFR and KRAS mutations in non-small cell lung cancer: toward personalized treatment approaches.

BACKGROUND: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality, with mutations in key oncogenes such as epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene homolog (KRAS) affecting treatment response. While genetic testing remains the gold standard for mutation detection, it is invasive, expensive, and limited by sampling bias. Radiomics and deep learning (DL) models based on computed tomography (CT) imaging have emerged as non-invasive alternatives to predict genetic mutations. This study aimed to develop and externally validate a mult…

The morphometric features derived as the predictors of acute ischemic stroke recurrence.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Several approaches have been used to estimate the risk of recurrent ischemic stroke, including clinical risk scores, models based on routine clinical data, and diffusion-weighted imaging radiomics. Most of these methods, however, focus on established clinical factors or features of the acute infarct and do not fully reflect structural changes across the whole brain. It remains uncertain whether morphometric measures derived from T1-weighted imaging can improve the prediction of recurrence within 1 year. We therefore evaluated the predictive value of these measures. M…
