"You Could Have Prevented It!": attributions of responsibility toward COVID-19 unvaccinated vs. vaccinated individuals.

BACKGROUND: While most of the population was vaccinated against COVID-19, ongoing vaccine hesitancy led to a substantial proportion of the population remaining unvaccinated. Unvaccinated people were accused of spreading COVID-19 and morally condemned. Recently, it has been shown that vaccinated people attribute increased responsibility for illness and infecting others toward unvaccinated individuals, which elicits negative attitudes toward them. Based on Weiner’s attribution theory we predicted that the belief in COVID-19 vaccine efficacy of vaccinated “observers” moderates their attribution o

Stakeholder perspectives on adolescent sexual and reproductive health service utilization in Uganda's Busoga region: A qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Adolescents in low- and middle-income countries face high rates of unintended pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and unmet sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs. In Uganda, 24% of girls aged 15-19 years have begun childbearing, yet modern contraceptive prevalence among adolescents remains low (15%). These challenges are particularly severe in the Busoga region, where sociocultural norms, poverty, and limited health system capacity hinder access to adolescent-friendly SRH services. Despite national guidelines, utilization remains low. Few studies have triangulat

Nursing educators' perspectives on artificial intelligence: A rapid review of roles, limits, and implications.

BACKGROUND: Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly entering academic nursing education, yet its integration remains uneven and often lacks pedagogical guidance. Understanding how nursing educators perceive AI's role is critical to ensuring its appropriate and effective use. AIM: This rapid review aimed to synthesize current evidence on nursing educators' perceptions of AI in academic nursing education, with a focus on identifying which educational tasks can be enhanced, replaced, or are not amenable to AI. METHODS: A rapid review was conducted using a multimethod search strategy that combin

Conceptions of Medical Assistance in Dying and Euthanasia: A Literature Review on the Role of Religious Affiliation and Religiosity.

Euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide (EAS) constitute a profoundly significant issue of growing relevance in the context of healthcare. As more jurisdictions legalize EAS, its societal impacts continue to grow, and it is important that religious perspectives are understood and thoughtfully considered in public discourse on this topic. A literature review of quantitative studies examining views on EAS based on religious affiliation and religiosity was conducted across four databases. Extracted data included survey questions, year of data collection, geographic location, population subgroup

Christian and Indian religions on palliative sedation: a scoping study.

BACKGROUND: Though especially in the last decade, much work has been done on various aspects of palliative sedation, little attention has been given to the role played by religious beliefs and traditions. Since the attitudes and decisions of patients, family members, and caregivers can be deeply influenced by religion when faced with severe suffering at the end of life, it is important to know the views of these traditions regarding palliative sedation. This study discusses and compares normative views in Christian denominations (Anglicanism, Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Protestantism) and

The perceptions and lived experiences of Indonesian nursing students in providing end-of-life care: A qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: End-of-life (EoL) care is a form of service provided to patients in the terminal phase and families to meet physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs so that patients can face death peacefully and with dignity. EoL care can be facilitated by medical personnel, but it is not uncommon for nursing students to be involved as well. Several factors influence nursing students' ability to provide EoL care to patients. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore the nursing students' perceptions and experiences regarding the provision of EoL care during clinical placements. METHODS:

Reconstructing Al-Farabi's ethical framework in contemporary bioethics: genetics, reproduction, and technological challenges.

BACKGROUND: Contemporary bioethics operates within pluralistic societies, where ethical reasoning is not confined to prescriptive frameworks but rather involves deliberation across competing moral perspectives. Although the dominant approaches remain largely Western, there has been an increasing interest in integrating non-Western philosophical traditions. This study examines whether Al-Farabi's ethical framework can contribute to contemporary bioethical discourse without assuming direct conceptual equivalence. METHODS: The study employed a sequential mixed-methods design integrating lexical

Anger, Cynical Distrust, Nightmare Distress and Insomnia Among Nursing Personnel.

Background: The nursing profession is recognized as a high-risk occupation, with the emotional toll on healthcare workers reaching a critical point. A complex interplay of anger and cynicism, often stemming from systemic pressures and chronic moral injury, seems to increasingly affect nurses' professional and personal lives. This psychological strain does not end when the shift ends; rather, it often manifests as insomnia and nightmare distress, creating a vicious cycle of exhaustion and emotional instability. This article explores how anger, cynical distrust, nightmare distress and insomnia a

Determinants of school-based sexuality education implementation in South Africa and Sweden: a comparative critical policy and evidence synthesis.

Policy commitment to school-based sexuality education does not guarantee inclusive classroom enactment. This comparative critical policy and evidence synthesis examines how sexuality education commitments are implemented in South Africa and Sweden, two rights-oriented but structurally different systems. South Africa formally locates comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) within Life Skills and Life Orientation and has developed national HIV, STI, and TB policy commitments and scripted lesson plans to support implementation. Sweden has a longer history of compulsory school sexuality education

Patient Preferences for Provider Specialization for Induced Abortion and Miscarriage Care.

Objectives: Most induced abortions are provided by abortion specialists, despite knowledge and skills overlap with other disciplines, particularly general obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN). We evaluated patient preferences for abortion and miscarriage care from a family planning specialist versus other providers, and perceptions of a general OB/GYN's ability to provide safe miscarriage and abortion care. Materials and Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey among individuals aged 18-44 receiving induced abortion (n = 54) or nonabortion gynecological care (n = 111) in North Carolina hos

Access to EU-Authorized Nonreimbursed Anticancer Medicines: An Explorative Survey Among Dutch Medical Oncologists.

PURPOSE: Timelines for market authorization and reimbursement for anticancer medicines differ across European countries. Therefore, medical oncologists may face periods when promising anticancer medicines are not reimbursed, prompting ethical concerns about equitable access, particularly in publicly funded healthcare systems, such as the Netherlands. This study explores Dutch medical oncologists' experiences and moral perspectives regarding access to EU-authorized nonreimbursed anticancer medicines and assesses practice variation. METHODS: A survey targeted 378 Dutch medical oncologists from

Association between critical care occupancy and code status decisions during resource scarcity: a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Code status determination typically relies on the expected benefits and harms of treatment intensification and patient values and preferences. Resource availability may also influence code status decisions. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for critical care often exceeded the available resources. This study investigated the association between critical care occupancy and code status decisions during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of adult patients hospitalized at Geneva University Hospital for acute COVID-19-related illness during

Health Promotion Opportunities for Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual People: Using Data From the New Zealand Health Survey.

ISSUE ADDRESSED: Health inequity for sexual minority (lesbian, gay and bisexual) people compared with heterosexual people is well documented globally. However, limited local data have been used to inform health policy and practice. This project analysed data from the New Zealand Health Survey to determine areas of inequity in health behaviours and identify opportunities for health promotion action. METHODS: We used pooled data from six waves of the New Zealand Health Survey (from 2015/2016 to 2020/2021). The sample for analysis comprised 67 426 people aged 15 years and older, including 1224 s

Challenges and prospects in integrating abortion care with HIV/family planning services as a one-stop maternal health service in Ethiopia.

INTRODUCTION: Challenges such as work overload, insufficient infrastructure, shortage of logistical supplies and healthcare providers and a standalone health service can hinder access to comprehensive healthcare. Integrated health services, therefore, can potentially improve service quality, lower costs, decrease facility visits, and reduce stigma and discrimination, particularly due to the religious, moral, cultural, and political factors surrounding abortion care. OBJECTIVE: To describe the challenges and potential advantages of integrating abortion care into HIV and family planning service

Self-identity explains better breastfeeding intention of ethnic pregnant mothers of Western Nepal: Extending the theory of planned behavior.

INTRODUCTION: Breastfeeding intention is one of the strongest predictors of breastfeeding behavior and practice. The Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), with its main construct, behavioral intention, is useful to predict actual behavior. While the literature has examined the implications of other theoretical notions such as self-identity, moral norm, descriptive norm, and socio-demographic variables, their roles remain unclear. Similarly, research on ethnic and low-income mothers is even insufficient. Therefore, given the original TPB constructs, our goal was to examine the role of extra theoret
