Clinical Evaluation of Insulin like Growth Factor-I and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor with Alloplastic Bone Graft Material in the Management of Human Two Wall Intra-Osseous Defects.

INTRODUCTION: In recent years, emphasis on the use of growth factors for periodontal healing is gaining great momentum. Several growth facto … e soft tissue parameters including Probing Pocket Depth (PPD), Clinical Attachment Level (CAL), and Gingival Recession (GR) at selected sites were recorded at baseline and at 6 months. Intrasurgically, intra-osseous component was calculated as a) Cemento-Enamel Junction to Bone Crest (CEJ to BC), b) Bone Crest to Base of the Defect (BC to BD) at baseline and at re-e …

Photodynamic therapy as adjunct to non-surgical periodontal treatment in patients on periodontal maintenance: a randomized controlled clinical trial.

Recent preclinical and clinical data have suggested the potential benefit of photodynamic therapy (PDT) in the treatment of periodontitis. Primary outcome variables were changes in PPD and CAL. A short-term clinical evaluation of immediately restored maxillary TiOblast single-tooth implants.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the short-term clinical outcome of single-tooth implants placed in the maxilla and immediately restored using cementless friction-fit temporary crowns. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-five patients consecutively referred to a private specialist practice for the replacement of failing or missing maxillary teeth were treated by means of immediate temporization of their single-tooth implants. Where teeth were still present, implants were placed immediately following extraction. Provisional crowns were fabricated on a special friction-fit coping by

Enamel Matrix Proteins and Guided Tissue Regeneration With Titanium-Reinforced Expanded PolytetrafluoroethyleneMembranes in the Treatment of Infrabony Defects: A Comparative Controlled Clinical Trial.

BACKGROUND: Several studies have documented the clinical efficacy of guided tissue regeneration (GTR) with non-resorbable expanded polytetra … reated compared to EMP-treated patients; 5) deeper residual probing depths but smaller increases in gingival recession were demonstrated following EMP therapy; and 6) smoking habits reduced the clinical outcomes of both regenerative procedures. CONCLUSIONS: The use of a regenerative procedure is indicated in the treatment of deep vertical bony defects since both th …

Chewing tobacco use and dental caries among U.S. men.

BACKGROUND: Chewing tobacco has high levels of sugars and may be cariogenic, but few studies have investigated such an association. This stu … ce caries and, to a lesser extent, coronal caries. This may be due to high sugar content, increased gingival recession and enhanced collagenase activity. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: Interventions by dentists and other members of the oral health care team to prevent tobacco use and help users quit can reduce the risk of developing oral and systemic disease.

Hypercalcemia as a rare presentation of hyaline fibromatosis syndrome from different Sudanese families: two case reports.

BACKGROUND: Hyaline fibromatosis syndrome is a rare progressive autosomal recessive connective tissue disorder caused by a mutation in the ANTXR2/CMG2 gene. According to its severity, patients may present with skin nodules or visceral infiltration, which carries a poor prognosis. Hypercalcemia has not been reported as a presenting feature of this syndrome. Stimulation of osteoclasts by inflammatory factors and immobilization--induced hypercalcemia have played role in the pathophysiology. To our knowledge, this is the first report of hypercalcemia-associated hyaline fibromatosis syndrome. CASE

Infantile Systemic Hyalinosis Presenting as Pseudo-Paralysis in Infancy: Study of Six Cases.

Infantile systemic hyalinosis is a very rare fatal autosomal recessive genetic disorder with a mutation in capillary morphogenesis gene-2- CMG2 /Human anthrax toxin-2 ANTXR2 resulting in spindle cell proliferation, altered collagen metabolism along with extensive deposition of hyaline material in the skin and several tissues. To date only a few cases have been reported in the literature, hence we reported this series. This study is a retrospective chart review of infants diagnosed with infantile systemic hyalinosis from January 2015 through December 2020 at a tertiary care children's hospital

Periodontal disorders in a cohort of patients with Cohen syndrome.

AIMS: Cohen syndrome (CS) is an uncommon autosomal recessive disorder due to mutations in vacuolar protein sorting 13B, with an intermittent presence of neutropenia. Contrary to other clinical phenotypic features, oral health has been little investigated in CS. We described oral health and dental hygiene in a cohort of CS patients. METHODS AND RESULTS: Twelve CS patients with neutropenia (<1500/mm3 ) were recruited in the dental department of Dijon University Hospital (France). Patients underwent oral examination, and blood samples were collected. Oral health markers were described and compar

Two novel mutations in the ANTXR2 gene in a Chinese patient suffering from hyaline fibromatosis syndrome: A case report.

Hyaline fibromatosis syndrome (HFS; MIM 228600) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by the abnormal growth of hyalinized fibrous tissue at subcutaneous regions on the scalp, ears and neck. The disease is caused by either a homozygous or compound heterozygous mutation of the anthrax toxin receptor 2 (ANTXR2) gene. The present study describes a patient with HFS confirmed by clinical examination as well as histopathological and genetic analyses. Numerous painless and variable‑sized subcutaneous nodules were observed on the scalp, ear, trunk and four extremities of the patient. Wi

OBJECTIVES: Owing to the overwhelming popularity of oral piercing, general practitioners should be prepared to address complications arising … the piercing. The highest prevalence of late complications was found to be recurrent infections and gingival recessions. As cofactors, time since piercing and oral hygiene behavior had a significant impact on late complications. CONCLUSION: Early complications after oral piercing are frequent. Minimally Invasive Non-surgical Periodontal Therapy and Photoactivated Disinfection for the Treatment of Furcation Involvement.

Periodontitis is a biofilm-induced chronic inflammatory disease that, if left untreated, can result in alveolar bone and tooth loss. Intrabony defects and furcation involvement (FI) are particularly difficult to manage, as they often persist after step 1 and step 2 periodontal therapy. In this case, we report a relatively novel therapeutic approach to managing deep furcation involvement in the first mandibular right molar (#46). The concerned area of furcation involvement presented a localized periodontitis with a Silness-Loe plaque index of 3, positive bleeding on probing, gingival recession …

Advances in separation methods for the use of platelet-rich fibrin in tissue repair: an integrative review.

Plasma preparations originating from the centrifugation of blood samples, such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), have proven useful for the treatment of gingival recession due to their rich concentration of cells and cytokines fundamental in the mechanisms of both soft tissue and hard tissue repair. Depending on the preparation method used to generate PRP and PRF, different concentrations of plasma elements and physicochemical characteristics can be obtained. This study sought to perform an integrative literature review to compile the available data on different pro…
