BACKGROUND: ATP-citrate lyase (ACLY) converts citrate into acetyl-CoA and oxaloacetate in the cytosol. It plays a prominent role in lipogenesis and fat accumulation coupled to excess glucose, and its inhibition is approved for treating hyperlipidemia.
