INTRODUCTION: Surgical resection is usually performed for the treatment of endobronchial tumors. This case describes the use of endoscopic resection as an initial treatment, allowing to spare lung parenchyma.
CASE REPORT: A patient was admitted to the emergency unit with right lower lobe pneumonia. A thoracic CT-scan and subsequent bronchoscopy revealed an intrabronchial tumor between the right main and intermediate bronchus. Biopsies were non-diagnostic and a PET-scanner did not find any abnormalities. Surgical resection was initially proposed but would have required a right upper lobectomy.

BACKGROUND: Myoclonic movements are a common problem in unpremedicated patients during induction of anesthesia with etomidate.
METHODS: In a double-blind fashion, 40 patients (ASA physical status III-IV) scheduled for elective cardioversion were randomly assigned to receive either 0.015 mg/kg midazolam or placebo 90 s before the injection of 0.3 mg/kg etomidate. Myoclonic movements and sedation were recorded on a scale between 0 and 3. Pulse oximetry, noninvasive arterial blood pressure, and heart rate were recorded during the study period.

The authors describe a new minimally invasive technique for posterior supplementation using percutaneous translaminar facet screw (TFS) fixation with computed tomography (CT) guidance. Oblique axial images were used to determine facet screw fixation sites. PURPOSE: We describe our experience in treating epiphora caused by chronic inflammation and obstruction of the nasolacrimal system by endonasal placement of a polyurethane stent in the nasolacrimal duct, with long-term assessment of patency (4 years).
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Between July 1998 and May 2001, 57 stents were inserted using Song's technique. All procedures were carried out in the radiology suite following mild sedation and local anaesthesia of the conjunctival and nasal mucosa. Between March 1986 and June 1989, 3,278 patients with upper urinary tract calculi were treated at our medical center with the Lithostar lithotriptor. The stones were located in the calices in 41.9% of the cases, renal pelvis in 25.7% and ureter in 32.4%. This study examined the antagonism of diazepam and meperidine in extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) anesthesia by low dose aminophylline.
