Renal trauma remains a topical subject due to its high incidence and the fact that it still raises therapeutic problems. The features of this disease were reviewed by means of a retrospective study of 30 cases of renal trauma observed over a 10-year period. The patients consisted of 27 males (90%) and 3 females (10%), with a mean age of 27 years (range: 20 to 60 years). The aetiological factors associated with maxillofacial fractures, and the trends in these factors over a 13 year period are reported. The First Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry, Tokyo Medical and Dental University, managed 695 patients with maxillofacial fractures between 1977 and 1989.
