BACKGROUND: Distal radius fractures are a common type of fracture. For patients treated with closed reduction with splinting, a period of rehabilitation is still required after the removal of the splint. However, there is a general lack of attention and low compliance to rehabilitation training during this period, so it is necessary to build a rehabilitation training monitoring system to improve the efficiency of patients' rehabilitation.
METHODS: A wearable rehabilitation training wristband was proposed, which could be used in the patient's daily rehabilitation training scenario and could re

Effective options exist for acute nonoperative management of anterior tibial spine fractures, yet there exists a paucity of literature describing long-term outcomes for these patients. This systematic review thus aims to consolidate management strategies and complications for patients with nonoperative anterior tibial spine fractures. In accordance with PRISMA guidelines, 5 databases (CINAHL, MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane, and Pubmed) were searched and screened in duplicate. Quality assessment was performed using the Methodological Index for Non-Randomized Studies (MINORS) criteria. Of 485 studies

BACKGROUND: Partial growth arrest of the medial part of the distal tibial physis following fractures that penetrated the epiphysis is relatively common. We present the results of treatment, based on a protocol of supramalleolar tibial and fibular osteotomy for ankle alignment correction, and contralateral epiphysiodesis of distal tibia and fibula to balance leg length discrepancy (LLD).
METHODS: This case series study describes the results of 7 patients with a median age of 14 years (range = 10-15 years) who were operated in our institution. All were treated by closed or open reduction and in

BACKGROUND: Reported blood transfusion rates in total hip arthroplasty (THA) range between 3 and 22%. Jehovah's Witnesses (JW) do not accept blood transfusions and make conscience decisions to accept blood derivatives. This study reports on strategies and outcomes for bloodless THA.
METHODS: All JW patients undergoing primary THA at our institution between 2011 and 2022 were included in this study (94 of 110 THA). The indications for THA were osteoarthritis (92%), femoral neck fracture (6%), rheumatoid arthritis (1%), and failed open reduction and internal fixation (1%). Strategies used to op

INTRODUCTION: dislocations of carpal bones without associated fractures are considered a rare injury, the most common mechanism of injury being axial loading with wrist in extension plus ulnar deviation. The literature reports a wide variety of complex carpal injuries, even so, it is possible to identify previously undescribed injuries.
OBJECTIVE: to present an atypical case of a patient with an injury to the midcarpal stabilizing mechanism and the stabilizing mechanism of the proximal row of the wrist following trauma to the hand that required carpectomy as definitive surgical treatment.

BACKGROUD: We hypothesized that concurrent temporary fixation of scapholunate ligament (SL) injury during volar locking plate (VLP) fixation of distal radius fractures (DRFs) would improve restoration outcomes based on both radiological and clinical results. Here, we performed a prospective, comparative study investigating the effectiveness of temporary percutaneous reduction/pinning during VLP fixation in DRFs.
METHODS: The first 43 consecutive SL injuries were treated concurrently after VLP fixation by closed pinning (group 1); the next 36 consecutive injuries were treated nonoperatively (g

Background: K-wire osteosynthesis is a widely used, cost-effective technique for stabilizing pediatric and adolescent fractures. The beneficial effect of perioperative antibiotic prophylaxis (PAP) and burying the K-wires below skin level to reduce infectious complications is still controversial. The goal of this study was to evaluate if the omission of PAP and leaving K-wires unburied affected the complication rate. Materials and Methods: A retrospective analysis of pediatric and adolescent K-wire osteosyntheses over a period of 11 years was performed. Records were screened for general, infect

PURPOSE: To review the outcome of high-risk geriatrics with unstable pertrochanteric fractures treated with external fixator.
METHODS: Eighteen consecutive patients with pertrochanteric fractures were operated with external fixator by using closed reduction technique. AO type, accompanying diseases, operating time, transfused blood units, duration of hospitalization, complications, healing time and mortality were recorded. Patients were followed clinically and radiologically for two years at least. The Harris Hip Score was used to document hip function at each regular follow-up.

Background and purpose - There is no consensus regarding optimal treatment of displaced distal radius fractures (DRFs). We compared the results of 2 treatment protocols: early palmar plating vs. primary nonoperative treatment of displaced DRFs. Patients and methods - We performed a prospective randomized controlled study including 80 patients aged ≥ 50 years with dorsally displaced DRFs, excluding AO type C3 fractures. Patients were randomized to undergo either immediate surgery with palmar plating (n = 38), or initial nonoperative treatment (n = 42) after successful closed reduction in both g

PURPOSE: High-energy tibial fractures may cause compartment syndrome, which needs fasciotomy. However, in this procedure, close fractures become an open wound and choosing the best type of fixation for this situation has been a problem. We assumed early open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) instead of late internal fixation or external fixation, or stage-based approach is a better method.
METHODS: We collected fifty-seven medical records from 2012 to 2017 stored in Alzahra and Kashani University Hospital databases. We selected important information of their medical files, called the sub

BACKGROUND: We aimed to show the effect of rotational deformity on the development of cubitus varus deformity (CVD) com-plication after supracondylar humerus fracture surgery.
METHODS: Patients with Gartland type II, and more severe fractures treated with Closed reduction and percutaneous pinning alone were included in the study. Rotational deformity was assessed with the formula described by Henderson et al. Patients with rotational deformity >10° were included in Group 1, and patients with deformity <10° in Group 2. In terms of CVD development, patients were evaluated with the Baumann angle

BACKGROUND: Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a potentially severe toxicity associated with glucocorticoid treatment for pediatric hematologic malignancy. We examined clinical outcomes of THA in adolescents and young adults treated for hematologic malignancies who developed advanced ONFH.
METHODS: In a single-institution cohort, we retrospectively reviewed medical records and imaging for perioperative complications, reoperations, functional assessment at last follow-up, and radiological outcomes. Twenty-seven patients (41 hips) underwent THA (bilateral in 14 patients). There were 11

PURPOSE: Fully threaded, variable-pitch, headless screws are used in many settings in surgery and have been extensively studied in this context, especially in regard to scaphoid fractures. However, it is not well understood how screw parameters such as diameter, length, and pitch variation, as well as technique parameters such as depth of drilling, affect gap closure.
METHODS: Acutrak 2 fully threaded variable-pitch headless screws of various diameters (Standard, Mini, and Micro) and lengths (16-28 mm) were inserted into polyurethane blocks of "normal" and "osteoporotic" bone model densities

OBJECTIVES: There is only sparse data on clinical results and complications of the third-generation Gamma nailing system (Gamma3, Stryker). Therefore, we started a large multi-centre case series in 2008. The aim of this paper is to present the study design and early results of a single arm of a prospective, consecutive, monitored, post-market follow-up evaluation of Gamma3 nails.
METHODS: From September 2009 to January 2012, 154 consecutive patients with an average age of 80 ± 1.43 years (50-99 years) and a trochanteric femoral fracture were included in the local arm of the trial. All patient

INTRODUCTION: Shoulder dislocations represent 50 percent of all major joint dislocations, with anterior dislocation being most common accounting for up to 97% of all shoulder dislocations. The shoulder is inherently unstable because the shallow glenoid fossa articulates with only a small portion of the humeral head. Various techniques are available for reduction, with Kocher's being widely practiced. However, both the Kocher and Hippocratic techniques are linked to complications like axillary nerve injury and humeral fractures. Traditional Vaidyas utilize several techniques, notably one simila
