Alpha oscillations reflect similar mapping mechanisms for localizing touch on hands and tools.

It has been suggested that our brain re-uses body-based computations to localize touch on tools, but the neural implementation of this process remains unclear. Neural oscillations in the alpha and beta frequency bands are known to map touch on the body in external and skin-centered coordinates, respectively. Here, we pinpointed the role of these oscillations during tool-extended sensing by delivering tactile stimuli to either participants' hands or the tips of hand-held rods. To disentangle brain responses related to each coordinate system, we had participants' hands/tool tips crossed or uncro

Digital Twin-Assisted Beamforming for Millimeter Wave Massive MIMO.

Millimeter wave (mmWave) Massive MIMO is a cornerstone technology for sixth-generation (6G) wireless networks, providing the directional gain necessary to overcome high path loss. However, the acquisition of high-fidelity Channel State Information (CSI) and the associated beamforming overhead remain significant bottlenecks, particularly in dynamic environments with frequent blockages. In this paper, we propose a fast and robust beamforming strategy enabled by a digital twin (DT) framework. Specifically, we develop a Conditional Generative Adversarial Network (cGAN)-based DT module that serves

RCLM-net: A rich-club properties based lightweight deep neural network for multimodal sequence spine MR images segmentation.

The diagnosis of spinal diseases relies on the comprehensive assessment of multimodal sequence MR images. As a prior foundation for intelligent aid diagnosis, it is important to design an efficient MR image segmentation model. However, previous models for multimodal images tend to have a large number of parameters, which is not suitable for low-computing-power application scenarios, especially for primary medical sites. To address the above problem, this study constructs a lightweight neural network model for multimodal sequence spine MR images segmentation, named RCLW-Net (Rich-Club Lightweig

Unsupervised, piecewise linear decoding enables an accurate prediction of muscle activity in a multi-task brain computer interface.

OBJECTIVE: Creating an intracortical brain-computer interface (iBCI) capable of seamless transitions between tasks and contexts would greatly enhance user experience. However, the nonlinearity in neural activity presents challenges to computing a global iBCI decoder. We aimed to develop a method that differs from a globally optimized decoder to address this issue. APPROACH: We devised an unsupervised approach that relies on the structure of a low-dimensional neural manifold to implement a piecewise linear decoder. We created a distinctive dataset in which monkeys performed a diverse set of ta

Physics Embedded Graph Convolution Neural Network for Power Flow Calculation Considering Uncertain Injections and Topology.

Probabilistic analysis tool is important to quantify the impacts of the uncertainties on power system operations. However, the repetitive calculations of power flow are time-consuming. To address this issue, data-driven approaches are proposed but they are not robust to the uncertain injections and varying topology. This article proposes a model-driven graph convolution neural network (MD-GCN) for power flow calculation with high-computational efficiency and good robustness to topology changes. Compared with the basic graph convolution neural network (GCN), the construction of MD-GCN considers

Adaptive changes in sensorimotor processing in patients with acute low back pain.

In low back pain (LBP), primary care and secondary prevention of recurrent and persistent LBP are not always successful. Enhanced understanding of neural mechanisms of sensorimotor processing and pain modulation in patients with acute LBP is mandatory. This explorative fMRI study investigated sensorimotor processing due to mechanosensory stimulation of the lumbar spine. We studied 19 adult patients with acute LBP (< 4 weeks of an acute episode) and 23 healthy controls. On a numeric rating scale, patients reported moderate mean pain intensity of 4.5 out of 10, while LBP-associated disability in

Deep Learning for Pulmonary Image Analysis: Classification, Detection, and Segmentation.

Image-based computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) algorithms by the use of convolutional neural network (CNN) which do not require the image-feature extractor are powerful compared with conventional feature-based CAD algorithms which require the image-feature extractor for classification of lung abnormalities. Moreover, computer-aided detection and segmentation algorithms by the use of CNN are useful for analysis of lung abnormalities. Deep learning will improve the performance of CAD systems dramatically. Therefore, they will change the roles of radiologists in the near future. In this article, we i

PIVOTS: Aligning unseen structures using preoperative to intraoperative volume-to-surface registration for liver navigation.

Non-rigid registration is essential for augmented reality-guided laparoscopic liver surgery, as it enables the fusion of preoperative information such as tumor location and vascular structures into the limited intraoperative view, thereby enhancing surgical navigation. A prerequisite is the accurate prediction of intraoperative liver deformation, which remains highly challenging due to factors such as large deformation caused by pneumoperitoneum, respiration and tool interaction as well as noisy intraoperative data, and limited field of view due to occlusion and constrained camera movement. Lung Nodule Malignancy Classification On 3D CT Images Using a Cosine Similarity-Enhanced Graph Attention Network.

Lung cancer remains a major contributor to global cancer-related deaths, largely due to diagnoses occurring at advanced stages. Accurately distinguishing between benign and malignant pulmonary nodules plays a pivotal role in facilitating early detection and timely intervention. To address the limitations of traditional methods that consider only individual CT slices and suffer from high false-positive rates, this work proposes an end-to-end patient-level classification framework for pulmonary nodule malignancy based on a Cosine Similarity-Enhanced Graph Attention Network (CSEGAT). Fuzzy Attention Neural Network to Tackle Discontinuity in Airway Segmentation.

Airway segmentation is crucial for the examination, diagnosis, and prognosis of lung diseases, while its manual delineation is unduly burdensome. To alleviate this time-consuming and potentially subjective manual procedure, researchers have proposed methods to automatically segment airways from computerized tomography (CT) images. However, some small-sized airway branches (e.g., bronchus and terminal bronchioles) significantly aggravate the difficulty of automatic segmentation by machine learning models. In particular, the variance of voxel values and the severe data imbalance in airway branch
