BACKGROUND: Inhalation/smoking has become the most common method of recreational opiate consumption in the United Kingdom and other countries. Although some heroin smokers appear to develop COPD, little is known about the association.
METHODS: We present data from a cohort of 73 heroin smokers with clinician-diagnosed and spirometrically confirmed COPD, seen within our clinical service, where symptoms developed before the age of 40 years.

PURPOSE: To analyze epidemiological trends of COPD, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema in Chongqing, China (2020-2024), and assess spirometry-confirmed diagnosis rates.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Data were obtained from the Chongqing Chronic Disease Surveillance System (CCDSS), including 975,421 incident cases and 1,244,978 prevalent cases among residents aged ≥15 years, and 239,086 deaths from all age groups. OBJECTIVES: To report the outcome of a consecutive cohort of neonates treated with high frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV).
METHODOLOGY: Prospective cohort study of 22 neonates failing conventional mechanical ventilation (CMV) between October 1992 and August 1993.
