PURPOSE: The varied management and counseling in disorders of sexual differentiation (DSD) depends a lot on the socioeconomic structure. A follow-up study was designed to evaluate the outcome in terms of patient satisfaction with strong socio-cultural issues.
METHOD: Of the 1,134 DSD patients being followed up in pediatric intersex clinic, 60 adolescents and adults assigned male sex in childhood were called for follow-up. They were interviewed for psychosocial and family adjustments including level of acceptance of gender, social relationships and future expectations.

This health economic evaluation simulated a cohort to compare hydrophilic-coated to non-coated catheters for intermittent catheterization. By using a Markov model, lifetime costs and catheter-related complications were investigated. Bladder exstrophy is a rare malformation characterized by an infra-umbilical abdominal wall defect, incomplete closure of the bladder with mucosa continuous with the abdominal wall, epispadias, and alterations in the pelvic bones and muscles. It is part of the exstrophy-epispadias complex, with cloacal exstrophy on the severe and epispadias on the mild ends of the spectrum. Bladder exstrophy is the most common of these entities and is more common in boys. The goal of this paper is to describe common methods of repair and to provide an imaging review of the postoperative appearances.

Eight cases of rupture of the posterior urethra were observed in children and treated via a trans-symphyseal approach. Repair was easy in the cases seen rapidly (2 to 10 days), urethral suture was effective and the result was excellent. On the other hand, in cases seen later (6 cases), between 6 months and 5 years, marked fibrous callus had to be resected. Urethral repair was not always possible (only one failure out of 6 late cases). This approach preserves genital functions.
