OBJECTIVE: To report our experience with laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy (LAVH) and evaluate the advantages of LAVH.
STUDY DESIGN: From January 1991 to August 1992, 176 LAVHs were performed at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, College of Medicine, Chung-Ang University, Seoul, Korea. The indications for LAVH, based on the preoperative diagnosis, were uterine myomas, dysmenorrhea, chronic pelvic inflammatory disease or pelvic pain, dysfunctional uterine bleeding and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (in order of frequency).

Amongst 876 cases suffering from ascariasis 662 cases were managed conservatively and 214 cases were treated by surgery. Surgical complications were found to be more common in males in the age group of 6-10 years. Forty-six (85%) basal cell and eight (15%) squamous cell carcinomas of the eyelids were treated with electron beams between 1963 and 1983. Lesion sizes ranged from microscopic to 4 cm, with 28 lesions larger than 1 cm. Thirty-eight lesions were treated with radiotherapy after incisional biopsy, and 16 were treated after excisional biopsy (specimens showed positive margins). Human, Chinese hamster or Chinese hamster/human hybrid cytoplasts were fused with UV-irradiated xeroderma pigmentosum group A (XP-A) cells. Forty-five patients who had lumbar disc surgery 10 or more years previously, and had required a second operative procedure, have been evaluated. Failures occurred up to 16 years after the first operation, and were most commonly due to pseudoarthrosis in the patients who underwent spinal fusion initially, and to recurrent disc lesions at the same level as previous surgery in the patients who did not have fusion. Stromal tumours occurring in areas other than the GastroIntestinal Tract (GIT) are known as Extra GastroIntestinal Stromal Tumours (EGISTs). They usually arise in the mesentery, omentum or retroperitoneum, while EGISTs which occur in the abdominal wall are very rare. Both gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GISTs) and EGISTs are histologically and immunophenotypically similar. We are reporting a case of EGIST, which occurred in the anterior abdominal wall in a twenty five-year-old female patient. The tumour was present in the right loin and imaging studies suggested that it was a desmoid tumour.

This is a retrospective review of 29 posttraumatic pediatric and adolescent patients with surgically documented triangular fibrocartilage complex tears. All patients complained of ulnar wrist pain. Fifteen patients (52%) sustained distal radius fracture at the time of the original injury. Twenty-three (79%) of the triangular fibrocartilage complex tears were Palmer 1B lesions.
