The hows and whys-A new teaching model for anatomy learning supported by customized 3D printed models.

The advent of three-dimensional (3D) printing technology has enabled educators to design customized 3D printed models (3DPMs), but the current literature shows conflicting evidence regarding the impact of 3DPMs on students' knowledge acquisition. Moreover, the methodology of existing studies is limited to investigating if 3DPMs work but fail to provide insights into why and how they work. This study investigated behaviors of a cohort of 80 first-year dental students in a learning environment assisted by 3DPMs and generated design principles for 3DPMs integration in the classrooms. To observe s

Effect of Print Orientation on Sintering Shrinkage of BMD 316L Stainless Steel: An Empirical and Numerical Study.

This study empirically and numerically investigates sintering-induced shrinkage of 316L stainless steel cylinders fabricated via Bound Metal Deposition (BMD). Sintering shrinkages were measured for three cylindrical specimens, one each in x-, y-, and z-print orientations, via a dilatometer. Each specimen was horizontally sintered to 1360 °C via a prescribed temperature profile to maintain identical sintering conditions between specimens. Numerically, a two-dimensional axisymmetric finite element model was implemented in Abaqus using a user-defined viscoplastic constitutive model incorporating

Biomineral/VEGF-functionalized fiber - enhanced 3D printed GelMA hydrogel to facilitate bone regeneration through osteogenesis and angiogenesis modulation.

Three-dimensionally (3D) printed hydrogels face significant challenges in promoting osteogenesis and angiogenesis for bone tissue engineering. In this study, we designed a bioactive 3D-printed hydrogel to enhance bone regeneration through osteogenesis and angiogenesis modulation. An enzymatic mineralization strategy was proposed to develop biomineral/vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-functionalized poly (L-lactic acid) (PLLA) micro-nanofibers (m-PLLA@VEGF). These micro-nanofibers were incorporated into gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) bioink to develop GelMA/m-PLLA@VEGF hydrogel scaffold.

Mandibular fracture repair techniques in cats: a dentist's perspective.

PRACTICAL RELEVANCE: Feline head trauma injuries are common in general practice, often resulting in mandibular fracture. An understanding of the recent advances in the field of mandibular fracture repair will facilitate evidence-based decision-making in clinical practice. CLINICAL CHALLENGES: Feline maxillofacial and oral anatomy brings unique challenges in comparison with dogs. It has been commonplace to adapt techniques and equipment that are better suited to other body regions or are species-inappropriate for use in feline maxillofacial surgery, and this has traditionally resulted in high

The Effect of Heat Treatment toward Glycerol-Based, Photocurable Polymeric Scaffold: Mechanical, Degradation and Biocompatibility.

Photocurable polymers have become increasingly important for their quick prototyping and high accuracy when used in three dimensional (3D) printing. However, some of the common photocurable polymers are known to be brittle, cytotoxic and present low impact resistance, all of which limit their applications in medicine. In this study, thermal treatment was studied for its effect and potential applications on the mechanical properties, degradability and biocompatibility of glycerol-based photocurable polymers, poly(glycerol sebacate) acrylate (PGSA). In addition to the slight increase in elongati

[Quantitation of the visual field].

With kinetic perimetry, the visual field chart had the appearance of a geographical map. Since the isopters were not geometric, their surfaces were barely measurable. However, with recent three dimensional computerised (or semi-computerised) perimetry quantitative evaluation of the print-out may easily be done. The visual acuity is expressed by a fraction or ratio. In a similar way our deficit ratio gives a percentage score of visual field volume defects. Using the Peritest, it is very easy to establish the field's deficit ratio. All the defects are classified and have a score. Scores are then

Custom 3D-printed implants for severe acetabular bone loss in revision total hip arthroplasty: A review of current advances and future directions.

Massive acetabular bone loss in revision total hip arthroplasty (rTHA) presents a major reconstructive challenge, particularly in Paprosky type III defects and pelvic discontinuity. Conventional reconstructive strategies, including biologic grafting, porous metal augments, and cup-cage constructs, may not adequately address complex three-dimensional (3D) defect morphology or achieve durable fixation in severe bone loss. This narrative review summarises current reconstruction strategies, with particular emphasis on the evolution, biomechanical principles, clinical outcomes, and future direction

3D-Printed MOFs/Polymer Composite as a Separatable Adsorbent for the Removal of Phenylarsenic Acid in the Aqueous Solution.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are emerging as advanced nanoporous materials to remove phenylarsenic acid, p-arsanilic acid (p-ASA), and roxarsone (ROX) in the aqueous solution, while MOFs are often present as powder state and encounter difficulties in recovery after adsorption, which greatly limit their practical application in the aqueous environments. Herein, MIL-101 (Fe), a typical MOF, was mixed with sodium alginate and gelatin to prepare MIL-101@CAGE by three-dimensional (3D) printing technology, which was then used as a separatable adsorbent to remove phenylarsenic acid in the aqueous

Tower-shaped super-adhesive microneedles loaded with vitamin A-containing Bletilla striata vesicles: temporally regulated Inflammation resolution and ECM remodeling for scarless wound healing.

Pathological scars, resulting from abnormal collagen metabolism during wound healing, pose clinical challenges due to the high recurrence rates of conventional treatments. Therefore, early-stage modulation of the wound healing process is emerging as a pivotal strategy for preventing and treating pathological scars, necessitating precise coordination of vascular regeneration, inflammation regulation, cell migration, and collagen remodeling. Here, we developed a 3D-printed tower-shaped microneedle system (BSEVs@VA-HP MNs) loaded with vitamin A (VA)-containing Bletilla striata vesicles (BSEVs@VA)

3D-printed long-acting implants for risperidone delivery using VAT photopolymerisation: a potential alternative for schizophrenia treatment.

Chronic conditions are increasingly prevalent worldwide, with the oral route being the most common for drug administration. However, limitations such as low bioavailability and patient nonadherence can result in complications that affect the patient's quality of life and increase healthcare costs. In schizophrenia, up to 75% of patients discontinue treatment within 18 months, raising risks of relapse, hospitalization and suicide. Therefore, sustained drug delivery systems offer a promising alternative. To this end, different long-acting subcutaneous implants, loaded with risperidone (RIS) were
