Computational fluid dynamics analysis of the respiratory function of orthodontic patients. A scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has been increasingly applied to simulate airflow behavior in the upper airway, enabling the assessment of airflow-related changes following orthodontic and orthognathic treatments that modify airway dimensions and shape. Such changes may influence ventilation and, potentially, the risk of sleep-disordered breathing. Therefore, the aim of this scoping review was to map and characterize the use of CFD to assess upper airway airflow and ventilation in orthodontic patients treated with or without orthognathic surgery. METHODS: A literature search was

Diagnostic performance of 68 Ga-DOTANOC PET/computed tomography in cardiac sarcoidosis: comparison with 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose PET/computed tomography and cardiac magnetic resonance.

INTRODUCTION: Cardiac MRI (CMR) and PET aid in early diagnosis and follow-up of cardiac sarcoidosis. 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose ( 18 F-FDG) PET/computed tomography (CT) is a major criterion in diagnosing cardiac sarcoidosis disease activity and therapy response; however, requires stringent dietary modifications for suppressing myocardial uptake. 68 Ga-DOTANOC, targeting somatostatin receptors in sarcoid granulomas, maybe an alternative, showing minimal physiological myocardial uptake and not needing dietary modifications to suppress myocardial radiotracer activity. METHODOLOGY: This prospective

Multiscale simulations elucidate the mechanism of polyglutamine aggregation and the role of flanking domains in fibril polymorphism.

UNLABELLED: Protein aggregation, which is implicated in aging and neurodegenerative diseases, typically involves a transition from soluble monomers and oligomers to insoluble fibrils. Polyglutamine (polyQ) tracts in proteins can form amyloid fibrils, which are linked to polyQ diseases, including Huntington's disease (HD), where the length of the polyQ tract inversely correlates with the age of onset. Despite significant research on the mechanisms of Httex1 aggregation, atomistic information regarding the intermediate stages of its fibrillation and the morphological characteristics of the end-s

Nature and Dynamics of Active Sites in Cu-Based Catalysts for the CO2 Hydrogenation to Methanol.

ConspectusCatalytic CO2 hydrogenation to methanol is among the most attractive routes in CO2 conversion, as methanol is a chemical feedstock and a relevant energy carrier for the sustainable methanol economy. Cu-based catalysts are the typical choice for this reaction, and Cu-ZnO-Al2O3, the industrial reference material for hydrogenating CO (in the presence of CO2), has also been shown to perform well for CO2 hydrogenation. Adding other elements to Cu NPs as promoters (Zn, Ga, In, etc.) and using specific supports (ZrO2, Al2O3) enhance the catalytic activity and selectivity of Cu toward methan

Diagnostic Accuracy of Red Cell Distribution Width to Platelet Ratio for the Prediction of Liver Fibrosis in Patients With Chronic Liver Disease From Eastern India.

Background Early diagnosis of liver cirrhosis in patients with chronic liver disease (CLD) can help delay/prevent complications and thereby improve survival. The currently available diagnostic modalities for the non-invasive assessment of hepatic fibrosis, especially FibroScan, are costly and not widely available, whereas various non-invasive scores for the assessment of fibrosis are cumbersome. Hence, we aimed to develop an easy and simple score for predicting cirrhosis in patients from Eastern India suffering from CLD with a better diagnostic accuracy. Methodology This cross-sectional, obser
