Antioxidants for preventing and reducing muscle soreness after exercise.

BACKGROUND: Muscle soreness typically occurs after intense exercise, unaccustomed exercise or actions that involve eccentric contractions where the muscle lengthens while under tension. It peaks between 24 and 72 hours after the initial bout of exercise. Many people take antioxidant supplements or antioxidant-enriched foods before and after exercise in the belief that these will prevent or reduce muscle soreness after exercise. OBJECTIVES: To assess the effects (benefits and harms) of antioxidant supplements and antioxidant-enriched foods for preventing and reducing the severity and duration

Adolescent Pregnancy and Challenges in Kenyan Context: Perspectives from Multiple Community Stakeholders.

OBJECTIVE: The key objective of this paper is to provide a phenomenological account of the mental health challenges and experiences of adolescent new mothers. We explore the role of social support and the absence of empathy plays in depression among pregnant adolescents. The project also collected data on the adolescents' caregiving environment which includes the adolescents' mothers, their partners, the community, and health care workers, as well as feedback from staff nurses at the maternal and child health centers. The caregivers provide additional insight into some of the barriers to acces

Family Group Conferences as an alternative to Initial Child Protection Conferences for families on the Child Protection pathway: Synopsis.

BACKGROUND: When children are at risk of significant harm due to abuse or neglect, local authority children's services in the United Kingdom intervene to protect them and support families. This usually involves an initial child protection conference, a multiagency meeting that includes parents but rarely children or extended family. Families often experience initial child protection conferences as shaming and exclusionary, with limited focus on building sustainable plans. Family Group Conferences are a strengths-based, family-led forum used widely in children's social care. Safeguarding Family

Impact of the Social Media Minimum Age on Australian young people and parents: protocol for a mixed-methods evaluation.

INTRODUCTION: Australia implemented the Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Act 2024 (Cth; SMMA) on 10 December 2025. This policy represents a world-first social media age-restriction, which requires age-restricted social media platforms to take reasonable steps to prevent Australians under the age of 16 from creating or keeping an account. Preliminary estimates suggest that approximately 1 194 000 young people should be affected by the deactivation of accounts. As the SMMA is enacted, we are collecting data to examine the outcomes for young people, parents and families. This st

UK speech and language therapists' views and reported practices of discourse analysis in aphasia rehabilitation.

BACKGROUND: Discourse assessment and treatment in aphasia rehabilitation is a priority focus for a range of stakeholder groups. However, a significant majority of speech and language therapists (SLTs) infrequently conduct discourse analysis, and do not feel competent in doing so. Known barriers identified in other countries, specifically a lack of time, training, expertise and resources, affect use of discourse analysis in clinical practice. AIMS: To investigate UK SLTs' reported practices and views of discourse analysis, barriers and facilitators, and clinical feasibility in aphasia rehabili

Adenoidectomy for otitis media with effusion (OME) in children.

BACKGROUND: Otitis media with effusion (OME) is an accumulation of fluid in the middle ear cavity, common amongst young children. The fluid may cause hearing loss. When persistent, it may lead to developmental delay, social difficulty and poor quality of life. Management of OME includes watchful waiting, autoinflation, medical and surgical treatment. Adenoidectomy has often been used as a potential treatment for this condition. OBJECTIVES: To assess the benefits and harms of adenoidectomy, either alone or in combination with ventilation tubes (grommets), for OME in children. SEARCH METHODS:

Do's and Don'ts of Taking Care of Deaf Patients.

AUDIENCE: Emergency medicine residents, fellows, and attending physicians, any practicing provider in a medical setting that may serve Deaf patients. INTRODUCTION: Emergency medicine providers often interact with Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH, or just HOH, for only hard of hearing) patients. Various limitations, however, affect their ability to effectively engage with DHH patients such as acuity, lack of time, and/or readily available communication tools (eg. virtual or in-person interpreters), among other challenges. These barriers contribute to numerous DHH healthcare disparities. Estimatin

Family Outcomes Associated With Occupational Trauma Exposure in Frontline Workers: Protocol for a Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Frontline workers are routinely exposed to traumatic and highly stressful events. Although the psychological effects of occupational trauma are well established, evidence suggests that these effects extend beyond the family members, affecting their psychological health, relationships, and functioning. Reported outcomes include secondary traumatic stress, psychological distress, caregiver burden, relationship difficulties, disrupted family functioning, and broader social impacts. However, evidence remains fragmented across occupational groups, disciplines, methodological approaches,

Early community reactions and acceptance of the Sliding-Scale Community Based Health Insurance Scheme in Ethiopia: Qualitative Findings from the treatment arm.

BACKGROUND: Ethiopia's Community-Based Health Insurance (CBHI) launched in 2011, has significantly improved access to healthcare. However, the program has faced several challenges, including concerns about equity, financial sustainability, and limited resource mobilization stemming from its flat-rate premium contribution system. To address these issues, a new sliding-scale premium scheme-based on households' socio-economic status-has been piloted in 13 districts across Oromia and Sidama regions in Ethiopia. However, empirical evidence on community responses to sliding-scale CBHI models remains

Cluster randomised feasibility trial of PRISM: the PRimary Care Individual Social Norms MSK Data Dashboard to support first contact physiotherapy management of musculoskeletal patients in primary care.

INTRODUCTION: Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions affect over 20 million people in the UK and account for one in seven General Practitioner (GP) consultations. To address capacity challenges, First Contact Physiotherapists (FCPs) now manage MSK patients in primary care. However, FCPs working in isolation from physiotherapy teams exhibit broad variation in decision-making that could pose risks to care quality. PRimary Care Individual Social Norms MSK Data Dashboard (PRISM) is a clinician-facing behaviour change digital dashboard that provides individualised social norms feedback such as, 'you are

Attitudes of specialist memory-clinic patients with early symptomatic Alzheimer's disease towards lecanemab: results from a multicenter survey in Europe.

Lecanemab approval in the European Union (EU) was granted after a delay. This delay resulted in concerns from many stakeholders, but attitudes of patients with early symptomatic Alzheimer's disease receiving specialist memory-clinic care remained insufficiently assessed. Therefore, we evaluated attitudes of specialist memory-clinic patients with early symptomatic Alzheimer's disease towards lecanemab in Europe. In this anonymous, international, multicentre, cross-sectional survey conducted from October 14, 2024 to February 18, 2025, a standardized, expert-developed questionnaire assessed attit

Integrated bite case management within a One Health framework for rabies elimination at the primary care level in Kerala, India: an implementation research protocol using a stepped-wedge cluster randomised design.

INTRODUCTION: Rabies remains a persistent public health threat in India, while gaps in surveillance and coordination of control measures undermine progress towards ending human rabies deaths. The WHO advocates a One Health approach, combining mass dog vaccination, postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) and Integrated Bite Case Management (IBCM). IBCM is not yet incorporated into India's national rabies action plan for rabies elimination. This study seeks to generate robust evidence on the effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, feasibility, facilitators and barriers of IBCM implemented within Kerala's Rabi

Development of a Line of Care for the Health of People Who Engage in Chemsex: Protocol for a Multimethod Study.

BACKGROUND: Chemsex, defined as the intentional use of psychoactive substances to enhance sexual experiences, is associated with increased risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), mental health harms, and disruptions in continuity of care, particularly among men who have sex with men. In Brazil, health services lack an integrated, stigma-sensitive care pathway (CP) for prevention, clinical management, and harm reduction. Embedding a CP within the Health Care Network (HCN) is essential to organize access, continuity, and quality of care. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to develop an evidence
