The role of hypoleptinemia in the psychological and behavioral adaptation to starvation: Implications for anorexia nervosa.

This narrative review aims to pinpoint mental and behavioral effects of starvation, which may be triggered by hypoleptinemia and as such may be amenable to treatment with leptin receptor agonists. The reduced leptin secretion results from the continuous loss of fat mass, thus initiating a graded triggering of diverse starvation related adaptive functions. In light of leptin receptors located in several peripheral tissues and many brain regions adaptations may extend beyond those of the hypothalamus-pituitary-end organ-axes. We focus on gastrointestinal tract and reward system as relevant examp

Analysis of Psychological Disorders and Adaptive Influence of Blended Learning of College Students.

College students' learning disabilities and learning adaptability refer to the fact that college students, on the basis of their own basic abilities and personality characteristics, actively make self-adjustments by interacting with their learning and learning environment problems in order to achieve a balance between the internal and external learning environment and the ability to be in a state of vigorous development. Forty-one participants with anxiety or insomnia, receiving maintenance therapy of BZD for at least 8 weeks, participated in a 20-week, tapered discontinuation protocol with physician counselling. Drug type and use was monitored throughout. Questionnaire measures of anxiety, behavioural inhibition, neuroticism, withdrawal complaints,

Profiles of Parental Home-Based Involvement: Associations with Preschool Children's Positive Psychological Traits and Social Adaptation.

PURPOSE: Although prior studies have examined the association between parental involvement and children's social development, less attention has been paid to the division of parental roles and the heterogeneity of parental involvement patterns. Adopting a person-centered approach, this study identified the latent profiles of fathers' and mothers' home-based involvement and further examined how these profiles were associated with preschool children's positive psychological traits and social adaptation. PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS: The sample consisted of 672 intact Chinese families with preschool

Enhancing well-being in later life: the interplay of mobility limitation, psychological adaptation, and assistive technology.

Purpose: The experience of mobility limitations can compromise well-being in older adulthood. This study aimed to investigate the psychological mechanisms through which mobility limitations affect well-being and to evaluate how assistive technology might support these underlying processes among older adults. Materials and methods: Using data from the 2015-2017 rounds of the National Health and Aging Trends Study (N = 5,091), we conducted mediation analysis to determine if dispositional tenacity and flexibility in 2016 linked mobility limitations in 2015 to well-being in 2017. Psychological Adaptive Mechanism Maturity Predicts Good Outcomes in Treatment for Refractory PTSD.

Background: Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) severity follows a bell-shaped curve ranging from mild to severe. Those in the severe range often receive the most intensive treatments, including targeted residential rehabilitation stays. These are expensive and welcome ways to improve their effectiveness. We hypothesized that positive change among subjects treated in a 45-day residential rehabilitation format would be associated with the maturity levels of measurable Psychological Adaptive Mechanisms (PAMs), alternately ego defense mechanisms. Methods: In this association study, adult male p
