The central nervous system of Helicella virgata was first investigated with chrome-haematoxylin phloxin and paraldehyde-fuchsin techniques for the detection of neurosecretory cells. With the alcian blue/alcian yellow staining method five cell types were identified within the class of Gomori-positive cells. It was further established that the group of Gomori-negative cells distributed in the right parietal and left parieto-visceral ganglia reacts positively with alcian blue/alcian yellow method. These cells are to be included in the Yellow Green Cells type.

A method is presented for the determination of free glycosaminoglycan (GAG) concentration in as little as 30 microliter serum. By filtration of the serum through DEAE-cellulose paper, the free GAG fraction is selectively adsorbed and concentrated on a circular area of 15.9 mm2; these GAG spots are stained with Alcian Blue. Stains for mucosubstances were performed on endometrial curetting material of normal and pathological endometrium. The study included normal proliferative and secretory endometrium, cystic and adenomatous hyperplasia, and endometrial adenocarcinoma. The acid mucins contained in goblet cells of the descending colon of 34 male Sprague-Dawley rats were histochemically labeled by Alcian blue pH 2.5 and quantified in an image analyzer (Cortex Controller). Twenty-two of these 34 rats were treated with 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH) suspended in EDTA solution as a stabilizing agent and the remaining 12 rats with EDTA only. Hyaluronic acid is a glycosaminoglycan (GAG) which has been demonstrated by biochemical and histochemical methods to be present in inner ear fluids and tissues. In the present study, the protective effect of omeprazole on gastric mucosa injury induced by ethanol.HCl in rats and the putative mechanisms involved in this action were investigated. Misoprostol and ranitidine were used as reference drugs. The morphometric analysis of histological sections showed that omeprazole caused a significant reduction of mucosal necrotic damage, this effect being associated with a marked increase in Alcian blue recovery from gastric bound mucus. Localization of metastases within the sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) of breast cancer has not been studied. Forty SLNs from 36 patients with operable primary breast cancers were identified by means of lymphatic mapping with patent blue dye. The junction between the patent blue-stained lymphatic vessel draining the tumor and the SLN was labeled with alcian blue. Metastases within the serially sectioned SLNs were assigned to the alcian blue-labeled side, to the opposite side of the virtually halved nodes, or both. Eight SLNs were negative for metastasis. The present study was carried out to study the larval skeletal development in Labeo calbasu by using a modified double skeletal staining technique with Alizarin red and Alcian blue. The larval samples were obtained after induced breeding of wild L. calbasu germplasm from the River Ganga.
