Nasal Septal Angioleiomyoma and Septal Sinus Surgery: A Review of 2 Cases.

Angioleiomyomas are smooth muscle masses originating from blood vessel tunica media. This is a rare tumor, comprising less than 1% of benign sinonasal cavity tumors. Failure to recognize and surgically excise nasal angioleiomyomas can result in lesion recurrence. We present 2 new cases of nasal septum angioleiomyoma at a single institution. Additionally, both cases underwent septal and nasal surgery. Due to the nonspecific clinical and imaging findings, a high index of suspicion is needed to diagnose nasal septum angioleiomyoma, often requiring histopathological verification. Preferred treatme

Angioleiomyoma in a conger (Conger conger).

A wild adult male conger Conger conger, captured by a SCUBA diver in the waters of coastal Italy, was sent for laboratory analysis due to the presence of multiple productive ulcerous skin lesions localized in the dorso-lateral body area, caudally to the gill operculum under the dorsal fin. The main mass was sessile, ulcerated and hemorrhaging in appearance and was surrounded by several smaller masses, which originated peripherally from the same mass or were isolated, always with a tendency to ulceration. Histology confirmed that the newly formed tissue originated from derma invading the closer

Angioleiomyoma of the uterus: report of a distinctive benign leiomyoma variant.

Angioleiomyoma is a relatively rare type of leiomyoma of the uterus that originates from smooth muscle cells and contains thick-walled vessels. Angioleiomyoma is usually found in the skin of the lower extremities. Uterine angioleiomyoma has similar morphological features to that of the skin. The authors present a case of a 50-year-old woman who was admitted to the present hospital with the complaint of lower abdominal pain. On clinical examination, she was found to have a palpable lower central abdominal mass. Pelvic ultrasound revealed uterine enlargement, multiple small leiomyomas, and a lar

[Monstrous venous hemangioma of the retroperitoneum: problems of diagnosis].

The venal haemangioma is defined as a benign tumor consisting of veinlike vessels. The preoperative diagnosis and its inherent problems are … enign tumors. In the presence of highly developed muscular components, there exists a transition to angiomyomas and to leiomyomas. Venal haemangiomas are extremely rare in the demonstrated localisation of the retroperitoneal space. Here they can grow to monstrous preportions whilst remaining undetected. Thus the patient is under the potential danger of bleed …

Foot and ankle angioleiomyoma: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Angioleiomyoma is a benign tumor arising from smooth muscle that is commonly found in the foot and ankle. This systematic review aims to synthesize the limited data from numerous case reports and case series, which often involve small sample sizes, to provide orthopaedic surgeons with a comprehensive overview of the diagnosis and management of foot and ankle angioleiomyoma. METHODS: This systematic review, performed following the PRISMA guidelines, brings updated information for the diagnosis and management of foot and ankle angioleiomyoma. 62 relevant studies were included. We an

Angioleiomyoma (Vascular Leiomyoma) of the Oral Cavity.

A 70-year-old male presented with a slow growing, dome shaped and painless mass of the hard palate. The mass was excised. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of a angioleiomyoma (vascular leiomyoma). A leiomyoma is an uncommon benign tumor of smooth muscle differentiation. True leiomyomas of the oral cavity are rare and most oral tumors are derived from the smooth muscle of walls of blood vessels. Therefore, they are called vascular leiomyomas or angioleiomyomas. Clinically, they may resemble a myriad other conditions both benign and malignant. A definitive diagnosis depends

Symptomatic posterior mediastinal angioleiomyoma.

We report a case of a symptomatic angioleiomyoma in the left posterior mediastinum. A 66-year-old woman presented with left back and flank pain for 6 months. Chest computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a well-circumscribed 4.3 cm round mass. The mass was initially diagnosed as nerve sheath tumor, because of her symptoms and its close location to the sympathetic trunk and intercostal nerve. It was uneventfully removed through video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. The pathology revealed an angioleiomyoma.

Angioleiomyoma of the nasal cavity--report of a case and review of the literature.

Angioleiomyoma of the nasal cavity is an extremely rare tumour (Sawada, 1990). We present an unusual case of angioleiomyoma arising from the lateral wall of the nasal cavity without any symptoms of pain or epistaxis. Another unusual feature was that the tumour clinically resembled an inverted papilloma.

Giant Angiomyofibroblastoma With a Florid Lipomatous Component: A Report and Review of Diagnostic Considerations.

Angiomyofibroblastoma is a benign, usually small neoplasm typically constituted by spindle-shaped and epithelioid cells in a vascularized, myxoid-fibrous stromal background. It is most often seen in the superficial genitalia of female patients of reproductive age. However, various clinical and histologic features have been reported, including tumors in male patients, malignant transformation, extragenital sites, huge sizes, and a prominent lipomatous pattern. We report the clinical and pathologic features of one such tumor: a 23.5 cm lipomatous angiomyofibroblastoma of the vulva in a 40-year-o

Angioleiomyoma mimicking a swollen bursa on first metatarsophalangeal joint accompanying with hallux valgus deformity.

We present a case of a patient who underwent a modified scarf osteotomy and tumour excision based on a preoperative diagnosis of hallux valgus deformity and accompanying bursitis. Subsequent histopathological examination revealed that the tumour was an angioleiomyoma. While tumours around the first metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint are typically associated with gouty nodules, infections, or swollen bursa (bursitis) in patients with hallux valgus deformity, the occurrence of soft tissue tumours in this area is rare. Moreover, angioleiomyoma is an even rarer form of soft tissue tumour and is seldo

Exophytic Angioleiomyoma on the Plantar Foot.

A case describing an O-to-Z double-advancement flap used to treat a 62-year-old woman with a slowly enlarging exophytic mass in the plantar aspect of the right foot is presented. Clinical details, surgical technique, and histologic photographs are described. This case report highlights the rare exophytic presentation of a pedal angioleiomyoma, which has not been described in the literature before.
