[Reflex cough: etiology, clinical features, diagnosis, and treatment].

Etiologic factors responsible for the development of reflex coughing are described. A highly efficacious and safe method is proposed for the management of this condition of psychogenic origin associated with hyperventilation by intradermal novocaine blockade of the laryngeal Head's zones in conjunction with preventive treatment of coughing attacks.

Prolonged blockade of the cervical sympathetic nerve by stellate ganglion block accelerates therapeutic efficacy in trigeminal neuropathy.

PURPOSE: Stellate ganglion block (SGB) is effective in treating head and neck pain and neuropathic diseases by increasing tissue blood flow through its sympatholytic effect. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between duration of cervical sympathetic nerve block by SGB and its therapeutic efficacy against trigeminal neuropathy after orthognathic surgery. METHODS: Twenty-eight patients with trigeminal neuropathy were randomly assigned to two groups (mepivacaine and levobupivacaine) according to the drug used for SGB. Increased blood flow, which is a symptom of sympathetic blockade

Intractable Hiccups Treated With Stellate Ganglion Block: Case Report.

BACKGROUND: A hiccup is a common well-documented physiologic process that occurs due to a sudden involuntary contraction of the diaphragm and intercostal muscles, with subsequent rapid closure of the glottis. While acute hiccups, lasting < 48 hours, are experienced by almost all individuals at some point in their life, prolonged hiccups lasting > 48 hours, or intractable hiccups lasting > 1 month, are quite rare and may significantly impact a person's quality of life. We would like to share a report of a stellate ganglion (SG) block relieving the discomfort of a patient suffering from idiopath

Treatment of multiple physiological and psychological disorders in one patient with stellate ganglion block: a case report.

Patients with several concurrent illnesses often present with complex manifestations and therefore receive a variety of treatments. The purpose of this report was to describe a patient diagnosed with hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's encephalopathy, cerebral infarction, and ventricular arrhythmia. The patient also had multiple physiological and psychological disorders, including dizziness, frequent ventricular premature beats, hypotension, anxiety, and insomnia. Among other treatments, the patient received a stellate ganglion block and most symptoms were substantially alleviated. Therefore, stellate

Percutaneous Stellate Ganglion Block in Electrical Storm: A Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Electrical storm (ES) is characterized by recurrent ventricular dysrhythmias (RVDs) requiring emergent intervention, and associated with poor outcomes. They are classically refractory to conventional treatments like antidysrhythmics and defibrillation, mandating sympathetic blockade. Stellate ganglion block (SGB) is gaining prominence as a feasible bedside intervention, serving as a bridge to definitive management. OBJECTIVE: This scoping review evaluates the effectiveness and safety of percutaneous SGB in managing ES. METHODS: A systematic search was conducted across PubMed, Goo

Continuous Thoracic Paravertebral Block to Treat Electrical Storm.

Continuous ganglion block is increasingly being used to help manage ventricular tachyarrhythmias. We present the cases of 2 patients in whom we used continuous left thoracic paravertebral block to achieve sympathetic denervation and improvement in drug-refractory ventricular tachyarrhythmias. Whether as destination therapy or bridging therapy, we conclude that the block is safe, improves patients' comfort, and is superior in several ways to stellate ganglion block and other single-injection techniques.

Transient coma: A complication after neurolytic celiac plexus and splanchnic nerve blocks in a patient with superior mesenteric artery syndrome.

The unintentional intravascular injection of alcohol or phenol during the neurolytic block of the celiac plexus or splanchnic nerves can cause major side effects, which are rare but potentially fatal. We report a case of a 42-year-old female with a history of epigastric pain, persistent postprandial vomiting, and weight loss due to superior mesenteric artery syndrome, who underwent a fluoroscopy-guided neurolytic splanchnic nerve block with phenol and a celiac plexus block with alcohol, complicated by transient coma immediately after the procedure. Any pain originating from visceral abdominal

Anesthetic block of the dorsal penile nerve inhibits vibratory-induced ejaculation in men with spinal cord injuries.

OBJECTIVES: [corrected] We investigated which nerve pathways are necessary to achieve ejaculation using penile vibratory stimulation (PVS) in men with spinal cord injury (SCI). METHODS: Eight men with SCI were selected based on the presence of a bulbocavernosus reflex (BCR) and consistent antegrade ejaculation with PVS. Level of injury was cervical (4), upper thoracic (4), and lower thoracic (1). Mean age was 30.4 years (range 22 to 38). Usual responses to PVS included autonomic dysreflexia (4), erection (4), and consistent somatic responses such as abdominal contractions (8). Local anesthesi

Impact of Stellate Ganglion Block on Tissue Blood Flow/Oxygenation and Postoperative Mandibular Nerve Hypoesthesia: A Cohort Study.

PURPOSE: Although a stellate ganglion block (SGB) increases tissue blood flow in the mandibular region, the change in tissue oxygenation after SGB and therapeutic effect of SGB for postoperative mandibular nerve hypoesthesia remain to be established. The study aim was to measure the change in tissue oxygenation in the mandibular region after SGB. METHODS: To determine the variation in tissue oxygenation in the mandibular region, the tissue oxygen index (TOI; percentage of oxygenated hemoglobin in the total hemoglobin) was measured at the skin near the mental foramen bilaterally, at the primar

Applications of Celiac Plexus Block in Chronic Pancreatitis or Pancreatic Cancer.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Celiac plexus block (CPB) is an established interventional technique for the management of severe upper abdominal pain, particularly in patients with chronic pancreatitis (CP) and pancreatic cancer (PC). Pain in these conditions is complex, involving visceral and neuropathic mechanisms and, in CP, additional contributions from neuropathic remodeling, central sensitization, and altered descending modulation play a role. RECENT FINDINGS: CPB provides targeted neural blockade to disrupt nociceptive transmission from the upper abdominal viscera, thereby improving analgesia, red
