Hepatectomy in patients with inherited blood coagulation disorders can be safely performed with adequate coagulation factor replacement.

BACKGROUND: Haemophilia and von Willebrand disease (VWD) are common inherited bleeding disorders. Although patients with haemophilia or VWD have a high risk of hepatitis virus infection and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), little is known about the safety of liver resection in these patients. METHODS: From 2006 to 2016, there were seven hepatectomies with haemophilia A and three hepatectomies with VWD for malignant liver tumours at tertiary care hospitals in Japan and Switzerland. To evaluate the safety of hepatectomy in the blood coagulation disorder group (BD group), short-term outcomes in t

[Acute blood coagulation disorders in pregnancy--changing patterns in the disease picture].

The syndrome of coagulation defects in obstetrics was detected as cause for obstetrical hemorrhage during the 50 years. Some of the etiologic factors like the dead fetus syndrome or the salting out syndrome have vanished. Amniotic fluid embolism is the only syndrome which is clearly associated with disseminated intravascular coagulation. This connection between premature separation is less clear. One concept assumes that the plasma fibrinogen concentration is low because it is consumed in the retroplacental hematoma. Heparin treatment can be fatal if DIC is mistaken with a "loss coagulopathy",

Blood Coagulation Disorders in Heart Failure: From Basic Science to Clinical Perspectives.

Heart failure (HF) is a clinical syndrome that is divided into 3 subtypes based on the left ventricular ejection fraction. Every subtype has specific clinical characteristics and concomitant diseases, substantially increasing risk of thromboembolic complications, such as stroke, peripheral embolism and pulmonary embolism. Despite the annual prevalence of 1% and devastating clinical consequences, thromboembolic complications are not typically recognized as the leading problem in patients with HF, representing an underappreciated clinical challenge. Although the currently available data do not s

Quality of life in children and adolescents with blood coagulation disorders and hemoglobinopathies.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of oral conditions and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in children and adolescents with blood coagulation disorders and hemoglobinopathies (BCDH). The study was cross-sectional and included 61 individuals aged 2 to 18 years with BCDH. Exams for dental caries (dmft/DMFT index), oral hygiene (simplified oral hygiene index - OHI-S), and gingival health (modified gingival index - MGI) were performed. The pediatric quality of life inventory™ (PedsQL™) generic core scale and oral health scale were…

[Nutrition--a factor in preventing arteriosclerosis, coronary disease and blood coagulation disorders. II. The effect of nutritional imbalance on atherogenesis and the blood coagulation system].

The presented data show that nourishment balanced with respect to fats, carbohydrates, proteins and also containing the necessary vitamins, mineral, salts and microelements is an effective way of prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis and its complications as well as of restoration and preservation of the function of anticoagulative system when its failure is caused by disbalanced food.

Detection of mild inherited disorders of blood coagulation: current options and personal recommendations.

Although assessment of prior personal and familial bleeding history is an important aspect of the diagnosis of bleeding disorders, patients with mild inherited bleeding disorders are sometimes clinically asymptomatic until presented with a hemostatic challenge. However, bleeding may occur after incursion of trauma or surgery, so detection of these conditions reflects an important facet of clinical and laboratory practice. Mild bleeding disorders may be detected as a result of family studies or following identification of abnormal values in first-line screening tests such as activated partial t

Aptamer-based monitorization and therapeutic applications of blood coagulation cascade disorders: A systematic review.

Hemostasis is a complex physiological process that prevents blood loss following vascular injury via the blood coagulation cascade. The coagulation cascade is a highly controlled stepwise process that establishes clotting only at the site of bleeding, when needed. Recently, aptamers have been employed not only in the fields of biosensors and diagnostics, but also in molecular imaging, therapeutics, and drug delivery systems. The present article highlights recent developments in aptamer-based biomedical systems for the diagnosis and treatment of blood coagulation cascade disorders. Specifically
