Eleven neurosurgical patients without intracranial infection were given 4 g cefoperazone (CPZ) intravenously for 30 minutes. Ventricular drainage was performed in 10 cases, and 1 case with cisternal drainage. Eight of 11 cases showed moderate to severe ventricular dilatation. Serum and ventricular cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) concentrations of CPZ were measured for 8 hours after injection. We conducted several studies using a combination of sulbactam (SBT) and cefoperazone (CPZ) in a ratio of 1:1 with the following results. Serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) concentrations of the drugs were determined in 2 rabbits with meningitis caused by S. aureus. The study was done to evaluate the usefulness of sulbactam/cefoperazone (SBT/CPZ) injection for the treatment of infections in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. Cefoperazone (CPZ), a new semisynthetic cephalosporin derivative, was administered in the treatment of pyoderma. The results are shown as follows. CPZ was given to 21 patients with pyoderma. In 21 patients, marked improvement was seen in 7, effectiveness in 10, slight improvement in 1 and ineffective in 3. Total clinical effectiveness rate was 81.0%. Sulbactam/cefoperazone (SBT/CPZ) was administered to 19 patients with various infections in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. The clinical efficacy was judged as excellent in 1 case and as good in 16 cases; hence, the efficacy rate was 89.5%. SBT/CPZ was not effective in a patient with end-stage carcinomatous peritonitis and nor in a patient with pyosalpinx caused by E. coli and Peptococcus magnus. Except a case by E. coli, SBT/CPZ was highly effective for pyosalpinx and pelvic peritonitis where E. coli or K. pneumoniae was the causative organism. No side effects were observed.

Sulbactam/cefoperazone (SBT/CPZ) was administered to 8 cases with gynecologic infections including pelvic peritonitis (2 cases), pyometra (2 cases), acute adnexitis, Bartholin abscess, endometritis and infected lymphocyst.
