Optimized Extraction Protocol of Chloroplast DNA from Chenopodium album (Amaranthaceae) Enabling Whole Plastid Genome Sequencing.

Chenopodium is one of the most complex genera in the family Amaranthaceae, exhibiting ploidy levels ranging from diploid to hexaploid. The lack of distinct morphological characters and phenotypic plasticity has complicated species identification in this genus. The advent of next-generation sequencing technology has enabled in-depth genomic studies of Chenopodium species. To date, the chloroplast genomes of six Chenopodium species-Chenopodium acuminatum, C. ficifolium, C. berlandieri, C. petiolare, C. quinoa, and C. album-have been reported using genomic DNA as templates. On the other hand, hig…

Root Reinforcement Improved Performance, Productivity, and Grain Bioactive Quality of Field-Droughted Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa).

Modern agriculture is facing multiple and complex challenges and has to produce more food and fiber to feed a growing population. Increasingly volatile weather and more extreme events such as droughts can reduce crop productivity. This implies the need for significant increases in production and the adoption of more efficient and sustainable production methods and adaptation to climate change. A new technological and environment-friendly management technique to improve the tolerance of quinoa grown to maturity is proposed using native microbial biostimulants (arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi; AMF)

Comparative genomic characterization and germination-associated expression of DET2 and CER10 related reductases in Chenopodium quinoa.

Genome annotations frequently group DEETIOLATED2 (DET2), ECERIFERUM10 (CER10), and related proteins under broad steroid-reductase-like designations, despite experimentally characterized members participating in distinct metabolic pathways associated with plant development and environmental responses. Here, we comparatively characterized DET2 and CER10 related reductases in Arabidopsis thaliana, Amaranthus hypochondriacus, and the allotetraploid crop Chenopodium quinoa. Phylogenetic analysis resolved five groups and clearly separated DET2-like and CER10-like proteins. Conserved motifs, exon-int…
