Thirty-three fetuses with an enlarged cisterna magna (10 mm or more) were evaluated to determine factors that might be associated with an underlying chromosome abnormality. Eighteen fetuses (55%) proved to have a chromosome abnormality, including trisomy 18 or trisomy 18 variant (12), trisomy 13 (three), Turner syndrome (one), or other rearrangements (two). AIMS: The aims of this study was to invent the prevalence of cisterna magna (CM) enlargement in a low-risk population and relate this to chromosomal abnormalities and initial delivery outcome.
STUDY DESIGN: 11,145 patients having routine ultrasound scan at 21st week of pregnancy were screened for abnormalities. Cases with CM enlargement were traced and outcome retrieved either from case notes or from the patients.

A simple, reproducible and chronic technique of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) collection in rats was developed by direct cisterna magna (CM) puncture utilizing stereotaxic apparatus. CSF collection apparatus was constructed using 1 mL syringe, silicone tubing, 21G disposable needle and water. Möbius' syndrome is a rare congenital anomaly characterized by paralysis of the 7th and other cranial nerves and musculoskeletal abnormalities. We report a patient with Möbius' syndrome associated with arthrogryposis and mega cisterna magna in addition to the classic components of this syndrome. The case is interesting because she developed Wilms' tumor at 21 months of age. To our knowledge, this is the first case of this association reported in the literature.

In prior studies of cisterna magna enlargement, however, those fetuses with abnormal chromosomes have had other sonographic abnormalities in addition to a large cisterna magna. OBJECTIVE: A pseudomeningocele and an incisional cerebrospinal fluid leak are considered frequent complications following neurosurgical operations. The rate of these complications especially increases following neurosurgical procedures on the posterior cranial fossae. The molybdenum cofactor deficiency is an autosomal recessive disease, characterized by rapidly progressive and severe neurological damage that mimics a hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy due to the accumulation of toxic metabolites that cause rapid neurodegeneration after the delivery. We report on a 48 years-old man with basilar impression without syringohydromyelia, in which the cisterna magna was impacted by the cerebellar tonsils. Six months after posterior fossa decompression there was the disappearance of nuchal rigidity, vertigo, spastic paraparesis and improvement of balance. Nevertheless hyperreflexia and diminished pallesthesia of the lower limbs persisted.
